Help! Kitten crying every time we leave the room!

Is this normal?

What can I do to alleviate?

Do I need to sleep down here?

Kitten born 9/7. Today is first day here. Kitten seeking lots of cuddles. Which is lovely but....can I actually go to bed?

I have a cosy fleecy top that I like to wear in the evenings, so I took it off and put it in her chosen basket. A bit of miaowing as I went to bed but not too guilt inducing.

I was woken up about 3am by some loud people so decided to come down. I found a sleepy kitten curled up in bed, and a poo in the litter tray. Result!

I have had a cup of tea, kitten has snacked. She only eats tiny amounts at a time. Kitten has enjoyed a big furry cuddle, gentle playing and a mad 5 minutes. Kitten got confused, and was miaowing at the door even though I was in the room with her. Smile

I will attempt to sneak back up shortly.

She was wormed and fleaed by the Rescue. They also intended to do first vacc, but the person was poorly, so we are taking her on Tue. She is chipped.

She has has 2 x vet checks. All fine!

We are now reduced to putting the cat bed in places we don't want her to go! Wink

A friend of mine is adopting 2 of her sisters on Sunday, one of which is exceptionally beautiful. The other is a little black one who is very sweet indeed.

I love sharing this joyful time with you guys!

One of mine literally wouldn't stay by herself ever when we got her, if she fell asleep on the couch and I got up to wash the dishes she'd wake up 5 minutes later crying for me.

She just stopped doing it after a few weeks, started going off exploring by herself (in the house obviously)...though the first time she disappeared to sleep in a washing pile it did result in a 2 hour search for her, lol.

I didn't sleep with her though, I just stuck her somewhere safe (I have other pets) and left her at night, she got used to that fairly quickly.

That's good to know, Tabulah. We lost ours yesterday when nipped out for 10 mins to get DD from school. She had slithered into a basket of papercraft material that I had stashed under a sideboard. Needless to say, the basket has now been emptied into a cardboard box and hidden upstairs & the basket is now designated for kitten!

Nothing like an afternoon snooze with a kitten lying beside you, though. You'll be very tempted.

It's interesting watching different mothering styles on Critter Cam, tabulah. The last Mom was incredibly hands on and her kittens seemed to live in a kitten puddle or with her all the time. The current one (Hazel) is nowt but a kitten herself really and gets fed up with them a bit now, taking herself off for long periods. Her kittens are much more independent and will sleep by themselves quite happily.

Tbh the exhausting thing is teaching DD to interact safely and have fun without it sounding as if I am nagging, telling off.

Dd alone is fine. Kitten alone is fine. Both together is rather tiring!

Aw Scarlett, sorry! I have been posting on Morecrack's thread, I thought no one was looking at this one!

We are doing pretty well.

Amount of time it takes Kitten to stop miaowing if left alone = average about 5 mins.

Number of times DP has nearly trodden on her = he says 32 today Wink ( he has been home, I have been at work )

Number of times we have reminded DD that kitten is a live animal who will want to be friends more if not picked up or stroked at the wrong time = 100000000

She is lovely. Smile

We're mean and our kitten sleeps alone in the kitchen! After several nights of being woken up by her jumping around at 5 am Shock DH was adamant we weren't going to have anything else waking us up (dd is hard enough work as it is!). I felt really guilty at first as she cried for us for ages Sad

After a few nights we got into a routine and we now put her in the kitchen with her dinner and say night night!! She seems perfectly happy with this arrangement - no more crying anyway.

We still have to remind dd about not picking up the cat at every opportunity so I'm afraid you may be saying that a few more times too... Smile

I'm mean too!
I have a room at the back of the house we call the snug. Has a sofa bed, rug, food, toys and litter tray. Plus a fleece radiator bed that Boo loves. She's in there from around 11pm.
No crying till dh gets up at 6.
She does seem a little wary of dh and his voice, though. Especially when he's wearing his great honking workboots!

I was away with work last night, very pleased to get home to my newly expanded family today. Kitten curled up on my lap now, following a harum scarum rampage up and down the stairs.

She is still a bit cry-y but I'm sure it will settle down over time.

Kittens rule!

Well, it's been a week and Boo is really part of our family now. We couldn't have hoped for a more loving, playful and characterful cat.

She is eating lots, having only been able to eat a few mouthfuls at a time when she first arrived. Her fur is glossy and flea free, and she is almost constantly purring.

She has mastered the litter tray, has a favourite toy and spends the day on her radiator bed whilst we are at work (I have taken to leaving the radiator on for her, much to dh's disgust!)

I am so happy I decided to keep her.

I am feeding according to the instructions on her food, but she is always so hungry! Can you overfeed a kitten? Or should I feed on demand? I suspect she is having a growth spurt.

We all love her so much. Even dh who was initially a reluctant cat owner!

Morecrack, what a lovely update!

We too have settle into a routine, kitten was very needy at first, is far more confident now. Fewer cuddles to be had, but I think she will grow back into them.

She eats very little at a time, still, so small amount of food is always available with water. We show her the food. Perfect litter tray manners so far, lots of lovely playing.

My DP has totally fallen for her!
