How much food should a six month old kitten have?

I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I'm not sure. Stan is about six months old and seems to be hungry all the time. At the moment I'm giving him three packs of Sheba a day plus a sprinkling of Iams. He also eats chicken. But every time I get up to go to the kitchen he follows and yowls. I'm not sure if he's just trying his luck or is genuinely hungry.

Am I giving him enough?

hes getting enough wet food maybe put down more dry kibble, my full grown cats eat 1/4 of a tin of butchers classic a day and 1/4 of a mugful of dry and vary in wheight from 5kgs down, i think a bit of it is trying his luck as every time i go into the kitchen my bunch of furry vultures are in like flynn hoping that soemthing edible may come thier way

What size of pack are those Shebas, Frizzbonce ?

I would say it probably depends on whether or not he looks a healthy weight or is a bit chubby.

Perhaps you could leave some Iams down permanently? Then if he is really hungry he will go and eat it. If on the other hand he's only hungry for chicken/treats he will leave it alone. I wouldn't really worry about giving too much unless he starts to look portly.

Cozie - they are the 100g packs. I've just bought some Butcher's Choice tins though and will give him a go on those.

Catneuterer good idea re the Iams. I'll do that.

I's agree, then, that that's enough - with some kibble on the side for snacks. The very last thing you want is a fat cat.

One thing I'd maybe be wondering is if he's a bit bored and looking to food as a supplementary activity. Does he get a lot of play/have plenty toys?

Oh - and is he due to be neutered soon? That may change his approach to life if so.
