My 6 year old neutered male Persian has been weeing on the floor for a prolonged period of time. Several years.

We haven't moved, or moved or changed his litter trays (he has 2) and he has always been our only pet. He has been checked by the vet. We have thoroughly cleaned the areas; we've even put new flooring down and he has still continued. Have had a feliway diffuser.

It's always on hard floors downstairs. It's not always in the same place and he does sometimes use a tray. He has pooed outside the tray, but only a few times, nothing like the weeing.

He is currently confined to the utility room as we have you g children and I can't have wee everywhere. Also thought this might de-stress him as a sort of 'crating therapy' which I have read about on various web sites.

I am lost for ideas now as I have tried everything. His life must be pretty miserable shut away, he joins us in the kitchen at meal times and we let him outside, but I cannot open up the house for hhim to join in family life. He used to love cuddling on the sofa etc. We can't rehome him as who wants a cat that weed everywhere?

Any thoughts? I have exhausted google.

God sounds awful. You're a better person than I am have to say!

Anyway - a few suggestions for you ..

Have you tried different cat litter ? A covered litter tray? Moving the litter tray? Unplugging the diffuser thing?

Yes, we have tried different litter, no litter (just lining with paper), and different depths of litter (we used to only put a little on and change everytime and tried the big tray several inches deep).

Also tried a covered tray and got rid of the feliway as it didn't work!

Keep the suggestions coming though, eventually there'll be something I haven't tried, as mumsnet is better than google!

Vinegar mixed with water to clean the area may stop it

Have you tried multiple litter trays? I posted about my cat spraying recently and things have dramatically improved now we have 5 litter trays between three cats. The only puddle on the floor was last night when she weed on the carpet when I had taken the tray away to clean it. It's hopefully not a permanent arrangement, I don't really want to have a tray in every room until she dies.

Have tried vinegar, also with orange oil mixed in as it's apparently not liked by cats.

I have two trays for one cat but both in one room. I really can't have trays all over with the DCs, but if it was a time limited thing I may be able to live with it. Is there a plan to gradually go back to sensibly placed trays?
