Woke up at 4 am this morning to the smell of cat poo and kitten meowing, then realised kitten had done big poo on my bed .... Arghhh

Sad How many litter trays have you got?

Ach!

When I got Oneago, many moons ago, I brought him back to my father's house and to some wood based litter that a friend had given me to use up. He'd had a long journey and was tired (as was I) but he took one look at the wood based litter, stirred it a bit with his paw, then came up on the bed and did a copious pee all over the split new duvet my Dad had put on the bed.

I went down to the supermarket first thing the next morning and got some 'proper' litter (fuller's earth clumping) and no more problems. The duvet was, sadly, a goner.

How old is he thoughts - and what are your current littering arrangements?

We have 2 10 week old female kittens. Using 1 litter tray with wood pellets.

They're only young then so their litter training may not be fully established.

Does she use the tray for peeing? And has she ever used it for pooing at all?

I'd be getting another tray directly (they're only cheap) and I'd also be reconsidering the litter I was using. Some cats like wood based pellets but mine have always preferred another type. (See my earlier post.)

I'd also be thinking, if accidents continue, about some litter training myself. They often want to go shortly after eating so that's a good time to be on the alert. Do they have a feeding schedule?

cozietoesie · 04/09/2013 08:57

PS - and it's advisable to clean the tray(s) directly after any use that you see. Some/many cats are hugely fussy about using a dirty tray, particularly if it's not 'their dirt'.

I am hoping its a one off, they have used litter tray for both wee and poo. Might try getting some other litter to try. Thanks for advice.

Definitely get a second tray. Even if you only use it for the duration (if, say, they're eventually to go outside) it's always useful to have a clean spare tray in a cupboard for sickness, travelling etc.

Best of luck - and come back if the problem continues.

Would maybe also be a plan to not let on the bed.

cozietoesie · 04/09/2013 10:03

Hah! Good luck with that one. Wink

Don't think I'll manage to keep them off the bed ! But will get another tray. ThanksSmile

its actually easy to keep any cat or kitten off the beds, i love my cats to bits but they have never been allowed in my bedroom or on my bed i keep the bedroom door shut at all times simples

issey6cats · 04/09/2013 18:08

and yes i have two foster kittens here at the moment and they dont come into my room either, just get into the habit of fending off potential maruders as you go into your room lol

My 13 year old cat did this when she was little , we were told by the vet that it was her trying to show her dominance and wanting to be tip of the household , we moved her litter tray nearer where she roamed around the house and kept her out of the bedroom for a while , and she's never done it since , and always sleeps on our bed Smile
I'm sure it will stop soon
