Should I get a second cat?

My friend is hand rearing kittens for our local animal sanctuary (the mum was killed by a dog Sad), they are utterly adorable and I would love the gorgeous tortie female to join our family (after 12 weeks obvs).

Here's the rub. I live in a 2 bed flat, with a 3 year old DS. We are a little limited for space, although a recent clear out has given us a tiny bit more. I have one 1yo male neutered moggie, who is currently acting like a typical teenager! He is an indoor, as we live on a busy road so litter tray etc. DH isn't our current cat's biggest fan but has told me I can get the new kitten "if I want".

Am I being unreasonable to double my cat quota given space restrictions? Or is giving the wee orphan kitten a home more important?

Thanks for reading!

The 2 cats won't be friends. Can you afford another cat? Mine cost £17/month each. I suspect tortie would easily find a new home. Go for a pure black kitten if you want to do a good deed.

A toddler, two adults, a young housecat, and a new kitten in a two bedroom flat sounds like a recipe for problems to me. And as lljkk said, a tortie kitten stands a very good chance of getting a home anyway. I'd walk on by.

I don't understand the attraction of tortie cats/kittens colour wise. However, a cat doesn't really take up much room but I would think carefully, what will you do if the cats don't get on?

When I had my first cat I got a second cat to be 'chums' with her, they didn't see it that way and resented each other. Think cat 1 would have been happier on her own.

They were both neutered females though, I think males are usually friendlier.
