My cat has had a stroke

My poor 12yo cat has had a stroke I think. She didn't come for her dinner and when I went to get her she didn't move. I picked her up and put her on the ground and she just staggered about and collapsed on her side. She was very distressed. Called emergency vet and he thinks its a stroke. I've to keep her calm and call him back with an update in half an hour.

Do cats get better after strokes? Sad

Am pregnant and on my own with DS (who is asleep thank god) as DH is away for the weekend. Can't stop crying. Vet must've thought I was a nutter. Called DH in a panic and he thought something had happened to DS as all I could do was cry down the phone.

Sad Sad Sad

Oh sorry to read this Pickle.
Very sad but good you were there with her.

I would bury cat in garden and put some nice flowers on.
xxxx

ExcuseTypos · 01/09/2013 08:51

Oh poor you, a very similar thing happened to our catSad.

It's lovely that she was cuddled up with you. She would have been very peaceful and calm.

Put her in a box with a blanket/towel. She'll be fine there until DH gets back. (Maybe put her somewhere cool like a garage).

PicklePants · 01/09/2013 09:20

Thanks everyone, am really sad but trying not to show it too much as DS is here. Am pregnant and hormonal anyway so am a bit of a wreck tbh! We've said ta-ta to the kitty (DS loved her) and I've put her in a box in the garage.

Just wish DH would come home. He should be back about lunchtime.

Of course - just stay strong in the meantime. She'll be quiet and peaceful in the garage for the time being.

Get some food and take care of yourself and DS.

Im so sorry, I lost my 12 year old dog 3 weeks ago. I bought his ashes home to us.

I know how much it hurts. Hope you are ok, xx

UseHerName · 01/09/2013 10:28

im sorry to hear this x Thanks was hoping for a better update this morn

you must be devastated

mumofone25 · 01/09/2013 11:55

So sorry to hear that she passed away. Sounds like she went inthe best possible way, peaceful In her own home knowing you were there. you must be so very sad. The vets can have her cremated for you and you can ask for the ashes back or they will scatter them for you if you don't want to bury her.

PicklePants · 01/09/2013 13:38

DH still not home. An exhausted. DCat2 very confused and wanting cuddles whilst DS sleeps (they are not friends!) so am taking the chance to have a sit down, but I'd love to just have a nap.

I'm scared a fox might get DCat1 if we bury her, so I think I'd like to have her cremated and scatter her ashes in our garden. She'd just recently started going out there after years of being a house cat, and she loved it Smile

Thanks for all the nice messages, you're a lovely bunch of vipers xx

Very sorry for your loss.

MissStrawberry · 01/09/2013 19:57

I am so sorry Sad.

I lost my cat in May. She would have been 19 yesterday. Cats really take a huge piece of your heart, don't they?

I hope DS and DCat2 are doing okay.

cozietoesie · 01/09/2013 19:59

Sorry for your loss also, Miss.

MissStrawberry · 01/09/2013 20:19

Thanks cozie. You were about then. I had a thread. NC since, needed too.

WillIEverBeFree · 01/09/2013 23:05

Ah, pickle, so sorry. So glad you were near her when she passed away.

Hugs to you x

timtam23 · 01/09/2013 23:18

So very sorry Pickle but I'm glad it was peaceful for her and she was in a familiar place

PicklePants · 02/09/2013 08:05

Thank you everyone. Sorry for your loss too MissStrawberry - they do leave kitty shaped holes in your heart don't they.

I miss the little stampede to the kitchen for food in the morning - it's not quite the same when there's only one of them. My other cat is missing her too Sad

We now have 2 cats and I dread the day we lose one as they love each other (most of the time!).

I miss her so much but having new furry babies has helped.

georgedawes · 02/09/2013 10:33

sorry to hear of your loss, it's so devastating.

If your other cat seems to be very sad, we found the feliway diffusers really helped our cat when we lost his brother :(

SparkyTGD · 02/09/2013 10:42

Aww, sorry Pickle, it does sound like a peaceful end though as Blue said.

PicklePants · 02/09/2013 15:55

Thanks for the tip re Feliway diffuser GeorgeDawes - I've been thinking of trying it anyway as she's quite highly strung and is terrified of toddler DS (another thread!) so that's another reason to get one.

DH is taking her to the vet today, and we'll get her ashes back by the end of the week. We have a nice cherry tree at the bottom of the garden, I think that might be a nice spot for her.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 02/09/2013 16:08

Sounds like an excellent spot.

georgedawes · 02/09/2013 17:53

That sounds a good place for her.

I thought the feliway sounded a load of bollocks tbh, but it actually really, really helped our old boy. He used to cry most nights for his brother but it calmed him down a lot. Hope you're OK.
