Hi. Will be taking cat to vet tomorrow. She is 13. She has been pooing on the grass the last few weeks which she has not done before. She has been sleeping in the bath for the last week or so and pooed just outside there this morning. Any ideas???

She's getting a bit older now, edward. Is she showing any other signs - eg stiffness or reluctance to jump which might indicate some joint and mobility issues? Or anything else, indeed.

You'll be discussing with the vet tomorrow of course. Have you considered giving her an indoor tray if she hasn't got one in case she's now really preferring to stay and do her duty inside?

Not hiding faeces is a very common sign of arthritis in cats, it is most commonly in the elbows so this is why is not digging holes. There are now excellent drugs to help with arthritis in cats.

Thanks for the replies. She is still jumping about okay. Behaving quite strangely. Been sleeping on tge edge of the bath all day for a week or so now.

I'd discuss it with the vet today as you would have been planning to do anyway. Cats are superb at hiding problems or pain (eg if she does have arthritis or something) so changed behaviour is sometimes the only sign of discomfort. Be sure to alert the vet to her changed habits on pooing.)

As Lone said, there are some good drugs around these days for that sort of problem. My own boy is on meds for arthritis (although he has a good few years on your girl) and has been given a new lease of life.

Best of luck to her and let us know how you get on.

90% of signs of arthritis in cats are behavioural changes.
