Pepsi and Shirley. They are two skinny black moggies with huge green eyes, who were found abandoned in a house. According to SSPCA they are about a year old and have each had a litter Sad I've just got some questions:

Do we need to sign them up with a vet or just take them there when they get ill? SSPCA gave jags and neutered them.

I have bought some dry kibble which states it's a 'complete pet food' but will they need some wet food too? I gave them a little bit of tinned tuna yesterday which was appreciated - lots of paw licking and grooming afterwards Grin

They are doing extremely noxious farts - honestly you have to open the window it's so bad! Is this due to change in food or environment or could one of both be ill?

One is quite dominant over the other - is this normal?

On the plus side they are clean in the house, litter trained and very sweet together. They are still wary, will tolerate petting but do not like being picked up and will not sit on a lap. They do come and sit near us in the evening though, and look quite happy.

awww nice to hear of two rescue cats who have had a bad strat getting a new home together in order of questions yes it would be wise to register them with the vets as it saves time if you do need to take them for any reason,

its better to feed them wet food aswell as if they dont drink enough water dry food only can give them problems with their kidneys later on, i feed mine butchers classic tinned as its high meat, no cereal and reasonable price, asdas and morrisons sell it, around £3 for 6 tins, 1/4 to half a tin each a day and some dry biscuits for afternoon feed.

on good quality food the farts should get less obnoxious mind you saying that my 3lb girl cat can clear a room and if the dog joins in gas masks at the ready.

and yes one of them will be the boss of the two quite normal

Great news, ubik. Are you to put pictures up on your profile for us to see? Smile

As issey said, best to get them registered with a local vet directly. You can never tell when they might need to go in.

On that point, did the rescue microchip them? If they didn't, it's certainly worth considering as soon as you can. Even if they're to be housecats, it's always possible that they might escape and having them chipped would make life a lot easier.

Well done.

Will try to get some pix up later. I've now got some Whiskers which was very well received.
I suspect they are starting to come out of their shells - they are both eyeing the bin where the Whiskers packet resides - it's a bit spooky really, they are identical (Shirley has a collar so we can tell them apart) and they kind of gaze at you with these green eyes...

SSPCA microchipped them and the advice is to keep them indoors 6-8 weeks - then they will go out via a cat ladder and catflap through one of our windows as we back onto gardens and a very quiet lane.

Settling down nicely then?

Seeing as they're chipped, you could think (for the future) about a microchip cat flap which will only let them in and prevent any eg neighbourhood toms from marauding on the food supplies. They're more expensive than ordinary flaps but worth it for the security.

Looking forward to the pics.
