I think I am losing one of my cats in the morning <cry>

My cat....one of four in the household.

My cat...the one who jumped on my knee at the adoption centre and wouldn't budge, so we took him home.

My cat...shared our lives for 10 years 3 months 5 days adopted at 1 year old.

Carried home today after being missing for three days. He crawled as his back legs had given way Got as far as the backgarden of our neighbours...coming home to me. He couldn't make it over the fence.

I knew something was wrong, he never goes missing...always comes when I called and I called so many times recently.

He is in our spare room over night, in no pain. Vet advised us to bring him in the morning to PTS...said there is no treatment for spinal injuries but no need to rush him in tonight as he is not suffering.

We have had so many cuddles tonight...I have drank too much wine, cry a river and more....I'm hoping it is some freak vircus something curable but that is unlikely.

I am going to miss him so much :( Off to give him another cuddle:(

Yep, I am counting the days!

cozietoesie · 26/07/2013 21:03

I bet you are. (I was interested that you said that DH was upset also. I thought that he might be.)

Sorry for the small thread hijack OP. I'm so glad you'll get at the least a few more days with your boy,

cozietoesie · 26/07/2013 21:04

PS - and he with you of course.

ToffeeWhirl · 26/07/2013 21:19

Yes, DH too, even though he has been very 'stiff upper lipped' about it. And my mum is still dreadfully upset and considers herself not to be an animal lover at all!

Apologies too for thread hijack, op. I hope your boy is just shocked and will improve over the next week.

How do people toss kittens out of car windows, Secret Shock? I fear for all who deal with those people.

ChubbyKitty · 29/07/2013 00:10

Hello OP, how is your boy today? Hope he's improving for you.

The Chubby laydees send their kindest purrs.

We lost our boy today :(

We had been loving and looking after him over the last couple of weeks but he wasn't improving. Still had no control over his bowels or back legs.

Today I took him out to the garden to get some fresh air and smell the flowers, he fell asleep on my knee enjoying cuddles. Tonight my DH took him to the vets where they advised that there was nothing further they could do to improve his quality of life....he was put to sleep.

I miss him so much already, he was the best, most loyal cat there was. My baby lap cat, sigh. Play on the rainbow bridge my darling, have fun with your cat siblings up there. :(

So very sorry for your loss :( Glad you had that lovely extra time with him x

Sparklingbrook · 08/08/2013 20:16

How are your DC Babies?

ToffeeWhirl · 08/08/2013 20:18

So sorry you have lost him, Babies. It's lovely that you took him out into the garden. I did that with our kitten on his last day too. He couldn't move, but his nose twitched at all the nice smells.

Sending you another unMN hug. x

Babieseverywhere · 08/08/2013 20:20

6 yo DD1 and 4 yo DS are upset, DD1 wrote him a goodbye note as she was too upset to hug him before he went to the vets. Luckily DD2 & DD3 are too young to understand properly.

It's so hard explaining it to DC. Sad

cozietoesie · 08/08/2013 20:55

So sorry.

emmelinelucas · 08/08/2013 21:09

Oh, I am sorry.
It will give you some comfort in the future when you remember how happy he was to have you.
He was a lucky cat.
(((hugs)))

Babieseverywhere · 08/08/2013 21:31

We were the lucky ones, he really was the best cat ever. Really laid back, I literally could rock him on his back like a baby. When I drove home in would run down the coal shed roof and jump to the walkway next to where I park my people carrier, my heart was always in my mouth when he negotiated that drop !

Every evening he was the first cat to be waiting for my lap and cuddles when the kids went to bed. He always knew when I had a bad day and somehow just stroking him calmed me down and improved my bad moods.

He never made a noise just silent meows. He loved being groomed with his shedding blade brush.

I am sorry, you did everything you could.

It's an awful thing to go through.

Frizzbonce · 09/08/2013 15:15

I'm so sorry Babys. But if he's eating and managing to enjoy life with you, maybe he'll get some leverage back on his legs and go on for a few more years. Lucky him to have such loving owners.

Babies, I hadn't noticed that this thread ran on to two pages and I am so sorry you lost your beloved boy. Our cats are family and it is so hard when they go... nine lives could never be long enough. I posted a link to the Blue Cross Pet Bereavement Line on the other recent thread about a cat dying. It's an amazing service and helped me a lot through the first few days after I had to have my own sweet boy pts last month. Here it is again: www.bluecross.org.uk/2083/pet-bereavement-support-service.html
