Anti Freeze poisoning.

With all the hot weather, PLEASE keep an eye on your cats, there are some evil people out there who put nasty things in water bowls, so if your cat goes off their food, starts to loose weight and is not themselves, please check their mouths (they get ulcers), and get them straight to the vets.

My big boy was diagnosed with stage 4 renal failure due to anti-freeze poisoning and we were told he had 2 weeks to live Max, although it was more likely to be hours.

That was 6 weeks ago, and his creatine levels are still coming down from over 10x the limit they should be, and he is eating and acting like his normal self. The vet is amazed and has called his contacts in the veterinary dep in the Uni he has links with and they have noted him in a journal.

It's still an uncertainty how long we will have him for, and if he will crash again, but 6 weeks is better than 2, and while he is jumping on and attacking his sister (and eating bugs) we will carry on enjoying him!

We have been very lucky, but would hate for anyone else to go threw the upset we have!

Often it is not even deliberate anti freeze poisoning a 5Kg cat only needs a teaspoon to get a fatal dose so in most cases a leaking radiator is at fault. This was almost certainly the case in one spate we had.
