Night biting... pls help

Mr Cory, furry centre of my world, is in danger of being rehomed.

I can't stand his nocturnal antics any more - he bites and scratches me to wake me up through the night, every night. My legs and arms look badly freckled with scars and scabs, and my back looks like I just came out of an S&M Parlour. Thank the lord for maxidresses, eh - can't show much skin at the mo.

It's profoundly unpleasant way to be woken, and he does it without fail from 5am onward. This am, having slept very badly, I was wrenched awake at 5 10 with a bloody arm, and when I exhaustedly dropped off again after feeding him, was woken again by a pierced ankle.

I've shouted, cried out, yelped etc - how do I deal with it? I don't want to shut him out of the bedroom, but I feel I may have to.

Shut him out the room, much as I love our cat I also want to sleep. Do you have a room you can't hear him complaining in?

The mistake is feeding him, he knows biting you equals food.

Thanks fluffy - sage advice as ever.

O o the sadness - the little lad jumps on with such a happy thunk in the night to sleep with me. Then lets out a rip roaring purr as he settles on to my feet - booting him out cracks my heart.

I know, it's lovely when they snuggle down all happy and cosy.

I love him less between 11 and 6.30. Unless he's ill he can sod off.

Shut him out and with a verbal chastisement ( NO BITING , say) the minute he bites - so that he associates the punishment with the crime. And repeat. It should be possible to re-train him.

A water spray perhaps?

Keep it next to your bed and when he does it, give him a good squirt?

Doesn't work for all cats. Some are not bothered by it apparently!

Otherwise, as others have said, just shut the door!

Try to avoid feeding him directly after him savaging you :)

I second a squirty water bottle kept by the bed. You can reach for it and squirt in a semi waking state. (I know)

Also make sure your cat has access to some food overnight, I leave down some dry food in our bedroomBlush.

A combination of the two should help.

My tomkitten is an awesome alarm clock - he throws himself at my bedroom door at 3am and 5am on the dot. I've caught him on camera wiggling the door handle up and down to open it.

Definitely shut him out.
