Ok so my friend just rang & asked if it would be possible for me to take her 8 week old kitten which is the runt if the litter & as big as my hand ( id say the size of a 3 week old kitten) the kitten does eat very small amounts of cat food .
The reason she asked me is because my Cat is still feeding my 11 week old kittens .
I'm more than happy to so this to help the kitten but will my Cat be happy to feed the kitten ??
I have told her to get some cat replacement milk & a bottle/syringe .
The kitten can walk , you can see her ribs Sad

Am I able to help this kitten ?

Your cat is already in trouble crazy - all that feeding put too much stress on her and she needs to stop. (In fact I'd take that last remaining boy off her now.) I think you have to say No, sadly, or you risk losing her as well as the kit.

Your friend needs to hand feed if it's necessary.

Isn't she going in this week for spaying, anyway?

crazyhamsterdisguisedasapanda · 16/07/2013 19:51

Her appointment is next week , ok thanks

Sorry - I may have been confusing her with another cat - but in any case, I wouldn't be keen on the idea. Firstly, the strong odds are that she wouldn't take the kitten on (and the poor kitten would be rejected outright and possibly biffed around) and secondly, she's done enough feeding by now. I think hand feeding would be the kitten's best bet.

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/07/2013 21:52

I reckon the cat would reject it too fwiw, and they aren't gentle about it either.

Go into the mn classics and look for pinots thread about "just Lund a ct and kittens on a low bench" or something like that, it's a thread over a 1000 posts so easily spotted. There is lots of info on hand rearing kittens properly. One of hers didn't survive but the mum left when they were days old so did brilliantly to raise the other two to adulthood.

cozietoesie · 16/07/2013 22:09

And this is a cat which has already aggressed on a daughter who returned after just a few days away. I doubt she takes prisoners.

My own darling Twoago was raised by hand from a day old and made it fine (if a little quiet because the breeder didn't talk to him all day as Mum likely would have if she hadn't rejected the litter.) There's also at least one person who posts here (located in Italy) that hand reared a kit from about two weeks old - and she's now a big bundle of 7 month old mischief if I recall.

cozietoesie · 16/07/2013 22:11

Sorry - Oneago. The heat is getting to me. (Apart from not understanding why I don't make life cooler, Seniorboy doesn't understand why I don't like to have him lying on my (currently bare) lap.) Oh for winter.

Lonecatwithkitten · 16/07/2013 23:23

Has this kitten been checked by a vet? I would be concerned that there is a medical reason for such poor growth - runts are usually only about 5% smaller than litter mates this is much bigger difference than.

The last time I saw a difference like this there was a really serious heart problem causing it.

cozietoesie · 16/07/2013 23:37

With not much able to be done about it at that age, I guess?

Lonecatwithkitten · 16/07/2013 23:48

So can be treated, but require expensive surgery unfortunately. I wouldn't want the OP to take on a kitten without being fully informed Sad.

Sad
crazyhamsterdisguisedasapanda · 17/07/2013 13:28

Cozie she is fine with her daughter now all back to normal

The poor mite passed away last night , after speaking to a local vet & showing a picture of the kitten , it looks as though she was starved .
I collected the kitten & took her to my vet for a proper cremation etc .
I have also reported my 'friend' to trading standards & the RSPCA Sad

Crazy without a post Morton you will never know, but the kittens I have seen with congenital conditions looked starved, but it was the disease process.

crazyhamsterdisguisedasapanda · 17/07/2013 16:41

Lonecat Their will be a postmortem done
