Cats and summer

Just wondering how everyones cats are coping with the heat? Ours are loving it, fluffly girl cat so much so we have hardly seen her the past few days! Shes currently fast asleep in the garden, but has been out non stop apart from some refueling for food and drink. I bumped into our neighbour earlier and he said she had killed two bird in their garden Blush I apologized and explained that's why shes the one with the bell on her collar, she's a proper little huntress, and i think this lovely weather has sent her into overdrive. Our black boy has been sticking to the shade and old lady cat has been sunning her self on the sofa.

How are your cats enjoying the weather?

Flaked out at the top of the stairs being furminated daily, whinging when we put the air conditioner on.

He's out most of the day though.

First he has a roll about on the path in the sun, then he retreats under a shady bush. He's just had a long snooze ready for his evening of moth hunting.

A little tetchy. He's very set in his ways so likes best to lie under his fleece but on top of gentle heat. This high ambient temperature in the house isn't to his taste at all, I'm afraid.

My poor kitten has to be kept inside until neutering so that's the whole summer!! She's mad though - her favourite place is our boiling hot porch where she stretches out like she's sunbathing!!

Well dcat1 (elderly, very thick fur) is only going out early morning and evening and spending the rest of the day flaked out on the sofa - quite often on her back with legs on the air (no dignity)

Dcat2 (ex Dubai street cat) is in his element - my sister saw him rolling around luxuriantly in the garden and asked if it wasn't too hot for him so I asked her to remember where he came from ...

My boy is having to cope with me being tetchy because of the heat. It was 24 degrees inside the house late last night and I don't react well to the heat so was quite grouchy - which Seniorboy is not used to.

How are Shuri and DCat1 getting on, basildon ?

Our 1 yo is loving it! She was a newborn this time last year in a rescue centre so is loving the great outdoors and catching anything that moves. She is not loving having suncream put on her ears though (white fur on ears).

itsnothingoriginal · 10/07/2013 09:22

Ooh droitwichmummy - do you have to put sunscreen on them when they go out?? I have a tortie and white kitten with white ears!

droitwichmummy · 10/07/2013 12:56

If they have white ears yes as they can get skin cancer. If that happens they have to have part if their ears removed :(

droitwichmummy · 10/07/2013 12:57

The vet recommended factor 50 so I just do the cat when I do DS

The warmer the better for my girl. Her brother, on the other hand, is constantly looking for shade and comes back in the evening and collapses in the shade again!

I think "I do not have to put suncream on the ballet cats" is probably well up there with "I do not have to change Lenin's tie" as things for which I am grateful...

My two do not like the heat at all bless them. They have been getting up in the night to play hide&squeak & ensure their mouseys get a good batting about the place because it's too hot to play in the day. There has been a lot of languid!sleeping & attempts to find a Nice Cool Spot. They are also struggling to get the balance between "I am too hot" & "I want to snuggle". Bit happier today as it's a wee bit cooler but still a bit flummoxed by it all...
