Cats and emotions

Does anyone else feel like maybe their cats are more emotionally in tune with their humans than we all thought? And perhaps with each other?

My two were rescued from my parents house after an accident. They knew what the score was, and when we got them (found at different times) it was as if they knew what to do and who to cling to etc.

They also know when I'm about to have an episode over the accident before I do.

And I've known these two their whole lives, they've always been like sisters(no relation to each other) and yet since everything they seem to look out for each other more and pine for one another if one has gone up to bed too early!

Sorry, went off on a bit of a tangent.

But does anyone else get those moments when you feel like your cat knows you better than anyone else, or should I get out more?

I've heard stories of cats 'knowing' their owners were pregnant before they did. The cats would sit across their stomach and be much more protective of their owner than usual.

Aww that's lovely! I always see in the news about cats who knew their owners had something wrong with them before doctors had even found it. And the ones in care homes who know which resident is closest to the end, which is so sad and so clever.

One of mine currently won't allow me to go into the bathroom for any purpose without her. I think she just can't stand having a locked door between her and someone she loves in case they go away too if that makes sense. She cries if she hasn't got a clear access route to me or DP.

I don't know about the emotions (although I rather think that mine recognize if I'm low or something) but I'm constantly staggered by how well they know the minutest aspects of my behaviour. What I switch on and off, what time of day I usually do certain things - what I'm wearing, even, and what that might indicate.

The blighters must watch us like hawks.

As I thought, all my cats have been shallow creatures.

Fluffy cat doesn't like it I'm being sick but more in a "the apocalypse is coming" way than "I must comfort my human" way.

If he scratches me I lick the wound and that seems to worry him.

Shallow as a puddle on a hot day.

Not shallow, Fluffy. Just very, very focussed. Look into his eyes sometime.

Fluffy girl cat has got into the habit of not letting me use the bathroom in peace. I think she thinks she's missing out on something.

one time, our black boy came running and meowing in whilst I was in the shower and slid across the tiles, almost ending up in said shower. Thinking something was amiss, i quickly donned a towel, ran out of the bathroom to find him sat next his bowl, eyes narrowed, greeting me with a short sharp shrift of a meow. He was hungry.
