Taking DCat2 to vets this afternoon to get her claws snipped, part of an ongoing wallpaper killing issue Angry I have been considering a few optiins, can anyone give me your opinions on this (i am going to say one of the bad words)

  1. frequently have her clawd clipped
  2. soft claws - anyone use? worth the £20 evety 6mths?
  3. declawing Confused

She is 9mths old, neutered Nd indoor cat, we have a Feliway on the way (free thankfully) any help/other options very welcome

I would just go for the regular clipping. You can do it yourself, it's not too tricky - if your cat will cooperate!

What Panda said. Also I believe that declawing is illegal in this country.

Also what do you provide for her to scratch? I find the Willows scratch boxes from Pets at Home to be very popular, even with cats that don't like the scratch poles. It's definitely worth scattering a couple of those around.

Make sure she has something good to scratch and personally, I'd nip the tips off her claws on a regular basis. It's fairly straightforward to do, just be sure to use a proper cat claw clipper and not scissors or something. And also to avoid the pink bits which are like a human quick. Just nip off the tips - when she's relaxed on your lap in the evening is probably the best time.

I'm not even going to discuss de-clawing. I know they used to do it in the US on occasion along with (shudders) voice box removal for vocal cats.

I have no experience with claw caps so I can't really comment other than to say that I don't like the idea much and I wonder how easily they're really applied. Others may be able to comment more constructively.

I have 4 scratching posts, 2 that attach to chair legs, a door mat that gets daily claw abuse and an outside run of wood that gets used. And they still scratch the paint, door frames abd back of sofa when they know I'm not looking.

Seniorboy has an old chair that he goes at. Oneago and Twoago both used carpet samples that we anchored to the floor to provide good resistance.

Shock at de-clawing. Although one of our relatives was offered it for her bengal which she declined.

More toys? Cat tree? Pet hamster?

Hello again Smile thanks for opinions - took her to vets and got her claws snipped right down. they have a 4ft post, and i got them some new.toys too to keep them busy incase they were bored. on the upside the paper hasnt been touched since Smile so going to keep up with regular trips to vet for that. Fingers. crossed this is all it will take and she will go back to being a nice.normal non clawing cat Grin

Vet also mentioned that declawing is illegal in UK, I have read up on it now and wouldn't have it done anyway because of the pain it would cause
