Uh oh, my bed is not a litter tray

We have a kitten who is 12 weeks old now, we got her about 4 weeks ago. She seems really happy, lots of purring, eating, sleeping and using her litter tray. We kept her in one room for about ten days and have gradually let her roam around the flat. We do shut her in the room again at night. Its a good size room with food up one end, litter tray the other, sofa dividing in the middle. Early on she came exploring upstairs and pee'd on my bed. I put this down to her maybe getting lost? I picked her up and carried her to the litter tray. I changed the sheets (obviously!) and used napisan on the actual duvet to try and absorb any smell. Unfortunately she did it again a few days later. I now always keep my bedroom door shut. She can access the children's rooms but doesn't seem to want to use their beds as a litter tray. (phew).

This morning my four year old let her our whilst we were still asleep in bed. She came into our room and because I am paranoid I kept an eye on her. Sure enough she got herself into position but this time she started to poo... on my bed... right in front of me and sleeping husband! Cue lots of mess and mayhem. I had read somewhere that to stop them jumping up on the table and surfaces etc you clap your hands or drop your keys to make a loud noise. So I'm afraid I did shout loudly & clap my hands.

How do I get her to stop this? Do you think she is upset about something? I'm worried it is all the 'love' from my children. Two are very sensible (age 8 & 6) but I am constantly having to tell the 4 year old to leave her alone. She is getting better and as I say the kitten seems very happy apart from these three episodes.

Any advice or tips would be gratefully appreciated.
Thank you

Oh dear, once they offend once in a place they do it over and over again. There's not much you can do but keep her out of all the bedrooms. A second litter tray outside your bedroom door may help but I'd just keep her out. Will she be getting outside In a couple of months?

She won't be unhappy, I'm sure, but it may be nice if you can create a space for her to escape the kids (a box on its side under a kitchen table with a blanket maybe? And discourage the kids from approaching her if she's sleeping too. If she really was pissed off she's be shitting on your pillow Grin

She has her travel basket which she sleeps in a fair bit. We've covered it in a blanket so it is nice and quiet and private. We do want her to go outside eventually but not for a while, she is due her 2nd set of jabs next week but I think I'll keep her in until she is a bit bigger. I'll try and put a second litter tray upstairs.

Gaahh! What a way to wake up on a Saturday morning!

Eek! The only two times I've had this, my eldest was trying to tell me something was wrong. I remember as a kitten she ran into the kitchen at me and miaowed in a panicky way before letting rip a very loose poo right in front of me! I then saw she had an upset tummy and switched her food.

My 6 yo cat has taken to weeing on the bed but never when its occupied!! Maybe put another litter tray by the bed so if you see her start to do it quickly put her in the tray. also spray the bed with something citrus as they hate the smell. shes still a baby but you dont want her to get into a habit.. my beds covered with waterproof mattress protector now when its not in use witb citrus on. seems to have broken the habit.

Citrus, good idea, thank you.

Mine did this as a youngster I had to get a new quilt they can still scent wee even when we can't :( if the quilt fits in a machine try washing on a hot wash with biological washing powder and vinegar. Good luck
