Kitten keeps meowing

I have an 8 week old kitten who came home with us 3 days ago.

He seems to meow a lot and not sure if that's normal or if there is something wrong? I can understand when he does it when we leave the room and he wants attention, but sometimes when I sit down with him he climbs all over me meowing, and looking into my eyes as if trying to tell me something!

The person I bought him from told me he was weaned, and he is eating fine. But when I went to collect him, he was feeding from his mum.

At first when he was meowing all over me, it seemed to me that he was searching for mummy's milk Sad as he kept pawing, purring and sniffing all over me. I thought after a couple of days he would realise there was no milk though.

He seems fine otherwise. My last cat was 12 wks when I got her so I'm not used to this, he seems like such a needy baby!

Maybe he's got Siamese or oriental in him - they nearly all talk a blue streak! I hope you're talking back to him and giving him TLC? He just sounds as if he's wanting some closeness and love because 8 weeks old is really a little young to leave Mom. (An extra few weeks at that age can make all the difference to socialization, confidence and eg tray use, grooming and eating - all of which Mom will train him him.)

Is he eating, drinking and using his tray fine?

If he's eating food and drinking water he's ok, maybe get him some kitten milk if you want to spoil him a bit. He may just be vocal/missing the others. I had cat who had a litter, the kittens we kept were still trying to feed from mum when they were almost as big as her because she didn't stop them they don't always stop at weaning

cozie apparently he is half Norwegian, half Persian. I do wonder now if 8 weeks was too young, but I guess there's not much I can do about it now. I hope it won't affect him - although so far he is using his litter tray, grooming and eating/fine ok. Yes, except for the mornings when we're rushing around a bit, he gets lots of attention and I do talk back to him which encourages him to talk even more!

I currently trying to write an essay which is mission impossible as he is chewing my pen and notes, walking all over my laptop, climbing all over me etc. all the while purring. And then all of a sudden he'll fall asleep on my lap, and if I have to get up to do something he will just meow until I come back!

Ice yes I've given him some kitten milk, and he does really love it. It's encouraging to know that even the older kittens carry on feeding from mum. Perhaps he would have still been feeding even if I got him at 12 weeks.

Sorry, I was thinking about my last cat, he is half Persian and half British shorthair.

Sounds like a normal kitten to me - but then I'm used to Siamese so have been trained to cater to neediness as a first priority.

Nowt you can do about things now you've got him and it sounds as if he's doing fine. You'll be headless after a couple of months but that's part of the fun of kits I'm afraid.

Also, he was meowing quite loudly every time he went into the litter tray - I think he may have been constipated at first, but seems ok now. He will meow a bit in the litter tray sometimes, not as bad as before.

It could indicate a bit of straining - but it could also simply be him telling you that he's doing his business. (Kittens are usually confident that they're the centre of your universe and that you'll want to hear about everything! )

Maybe just keep a weather eye on the tray to ensure that he's evacuating properly.

Thanks cozie, I grew up with a Siamese, bloody bonkers she was!

Yes, come to think of it, he does seem to be giving a running commentary on everything he does.

After having an adult cat, it's easy to forget how high maintenance kittens can be!
