Are cross breeds more sociable?

I'm looking to buy a kitten and wondered if it was worth buying a cross breed (would not consider full breed as I can't afford it and they tend to be rather neurotic creatures anyway).

Our last cat got run over Sad. He was cross Norwegian Forest and Bengal and had a lovely temperament. He would play with DS (8), was very loving, intelligent and incredibly patient. Not much would phase him (DS making loud noises/sudden big movements etc). He would follow us to the park or train station meowing all the way and we'd have to take him back home again!

DS misses our cat terribly (as do I) so I want to choose our new kitten carefully. Is there more chance it will have the kind of character suited to DS if it is a cross breed?

BTW, before DS, I've had nervous/unfriendly cats before, and don't mind personally but want a sociable one for DS!

I think it depends mostly on the individual cats.
My 2 are both rescue cats who we got as kittens are the softest cuddliest cats I've ever met. Why don't you go to a rescue with your DD and choose together?

I have considered that Madratlady but almost all kittens are friendly and playful! I want to know if there is more chance a kitten will develop into a sociable cat if it is a cross breed. My DS and his cat were inseperable, it was his best friend. I know there can't be any guarantee and we will of course love our cat no matter what, I just want to increase the chance.

Get a boy they are much more cuddly and social IMO . I don't think the breed or cross matters :)

Ooh yes boys do tend to be more lazy cuddly lap cats.

I hope you end up with a lovely kitten!

Thank you, our last cat was a boy, think they tend to be playful too.

There is so much variation. I you have certain personality in mind you might be better to adopt an adult with a known personality.
In my hands females are the sociable cuddly ones and the males the anti-social gits.

The one pedigree cross I have is a psychopath! The three most evil cats I have ever meet are Bengals and Rexes.

So why do people buy cross breeds??

Hmmm a good question I didn't buy mine he just happened, I think that's quite common. In fact I've never bought a cat they have all just happened.
