cat flap

We have a UPVC door which is apparently not cat flap friendly. Our only alternative is to put it through the adjoining brick wall. Does anyone have any experience of this? Is it a job for a builder? Poor cat is stuck indoors.

You can a cat flap in glass if you have a suitable window or patio door

Our cat flaps in a Upvc door. It's in a white panel.

You can have a cat flap in UPVC doors - photo on my profile. The cost depends on the size of the glass panel which will need to be replaced with a new one with a hole made in it. Most double glazing companies can do it. But it might be cheaper to put it in the wall, and yes, I would get a builder - unless you're very good at DIY.

Oh yes, and as Fluffy says, if your UPVC door has two panels - ie top and bottom. Then you can get the bottom panel replaced with a plain sheet of UPVC which can then easily get a hole made in it, and is very cheap. And you can keep the glass panel in case you want to put it back when you move.

I have just had a car flap fitted in my external wall. the patio door would have cost me around £400(big door). the installation in the wall cost me £175 and I supplied mg own car flap plus the extension tunnels. cheesycat hasn't been put yet. the tunnel I was worried about rainwater and draft but it has been fine.
the builder which installed it used to go out with the cat specialist at the excuse s knew lots.

the quote of got from a cat flap installer specialist was £100 more. HTH in some way

obviously CAT and not car

cozietoesie · 14/06/2013 22:25

I would have thought any decent general builder would be able to do it - so yes, it ought to be possible to ask around and get a decent quote.

Probably as well to get a microchip one from the get go just to be sure. They're more expensive but then you won't have intruders - and if you can save some money on the installation that should make up for it.

There was a cat flap in the wall on horizon last night, with a set of brick steps outside.

Wot - no porch light and door canopy?

I know! Some people just don't put the effort in do they?

No decorative box trees either. For shame.
