Letting cats out please help me stop worrying!

We've had 2 kittens (cats I suppose now Sad lol) for nearly a year now. Got them when they were ten weeks old and their about 10 months now. They were indoor cats but since moving in with my parents we've started letting them out (they have a cat flap and is a quieter area).

Both learnt how to jump over back garden wall on Saturday and were scared to go anywhere further than about 20ft. They have both started exploring today, wandering around the complex (new build flat/house complex type place if you get what I mean).

They've been gone for 30 minutes now. My cat (Missy) keeps popping back in every 10 minutes but my boyfriends (Boris) hasn't come back at all.

Basically I know I sound pathetic but I can't stop worrying!! I'm being stupid aren't I?!?!

Not stupid at all - it can be very tense-making, even when they're older and allegedly more experienced. (Although then you start worrying after a few hours.)

Mine is ancient but also new round here, scared of all other cats and doesn't answer to her name or anything else - so far she's always come in by half an hour or so, less if it rains...I know cats can look after themselves but worrying right along with you!

Its awful lol!!! The complex itself is really quiet, there are cars driving through but slowly and there's lots of grass/bushes. The house fronts on to a busy road but whenever we let them out they've shown no interest in going towards the front (the one time they did we discouraged them as best as we could).

Just can't stop worrying - know they're probably having time of their life though Grin

They will not be anxious though, they will be exploring in their element, all their senses alive and alert. They live in the moment.

Think of how much life they are getting from it. It gets easier.

I have a lovely cat on 6 weeks cage rest with a badly broken leg externally pinned from being hit by a car. And I and he are both desperate for him to be out again, roaming the fields, hunting everything that moves and coming home for cuddles and sleeping on my bed.

It's a risk to let them out, but it's a life worth that risk.

Mine always wanders back as if she'd only seen you a minute ago, little terror! Bet Boris will be all 'what's the big deal?' as well :D

somepeople2013 · 29/05/2013 20:59

He probably will - Missy given up coming back every 10 mins now...haven't seen her in 20 mins lol. Aarrgggghhhhhh lol

Oh God I feel for you. I dont let my two go out at the mo, but when I move I know I will have to. When either of them have escaped,I find a rattle of their food brings them back quickly enough!

somepeople2013 · 29/05/2013 21:24

They're back and now running riot around the house! Grin

Do it all again tomorrow evening no doubt Confused I'm such a worrier! Just love them so much - my little babies (I know I'm sad lol)

Thank you all for the reassuring words...I'll try and remember them tomorrow evening and not post again haha!
