New (to us) 5 month old kitten - how long til I should let her out

We picked up a new 5 month old girl last weekend, she was spayed on the friday. She's had her vaccinations.

How long should I keep her in for?

She's been in since we got her, apart from a trip to our vets to check she was healing ok and to register. Vet was very happy with her.

She came from about 40 miles away (long story) she's very confident and settled.

When we had GalaxyKitten spayed, they said we only needed to keep her in for the one day afterwards. Unless your vet has said otherwise, you can let her out anytime now!

Thanks, its just that she's moved house as well..

If the cat has only just moved to a new house, they should be kept in for at least 3 weeks.

When we moved house we kept our cat in for a week and he was fine.

I keep mine in for about 3 weeks when they're in a new house. First time of letting out is done before food time and under supervision. Once they're confident, you'll be fine to let her in and out as she wants. You'll panic once she goes out of the garden, and wait nervously till she comes back. :D

Our boy was in for 2 weeks and driving me bonkers, this one is dying to get outside after a week.

She was out and about at her previous home so I think she feels a little aggrieved at being kept in again!

Have to admit, Bob was a lot better behaved once he was allowed out. My older cats breathed a huge sigh of relief as he'd been tormenting the life out of them.

Yes, definitely three weeks. It will soon go and it's not worth the risk of letting them out too soon. They have to be really familiar with where they are living and regard it as home before they go out.

GalaxyDefender, no problem. It does rather feel like she's always lived here, very different from the timid anxious little cat we collected :)
