Arabian Maus - any experience in the cold?

Hi

our adopted street cat is arriving in two weeks from Dubai - he's mostly Arabian Mau (with a bit of Abyssinian according to the vet)

He's obviously perfectly adapted to the heat - huge ears and no undercoat - but I'm wondering how he's going to cope here once winter gets underway

Has anyone got one of these cats in the UK and how do they manage to keep warm?

i should imagine similar to a sphinx cat and they seem to manage ok over her not a cat but i adopted my hound from cyprus and she has a very fine dobie type coat and seems to have adapted to uk weather ok, maybe a knitted jumper or a coat , all you can do is see if he shivers and well done for adopting a street cat :)

He'll probably grow a thicker coat over winter, some feral cats I used to see at work had the bushiest winter coats.

Our tonkinese cat has no undercoat, and is a heat seeking missile when it's cold.
She needs to be on my lap, or needs to be in her little bed by the radiator, if its

Thanks - he's so sleek at the moment that I can't ever imagine him being fluffy! He's very adventurous outside so wouldn't be keen to put him in a coat in case he got stuck somewhere although he's the only cat I know who'd let you dress him ...

He really is a lovely cat, now I just have to persuade dcat1 that she'll love him too ..

Having a look see, it seems that they can develop a thick coat - and you have to remember that the Arabian peninsula can be ferociously cold at night - forbye it's hot in the daytime. I've had a bunch of Siamese, who can be pretty thin coated as well as only lightly covered in fat, and they manage fine with eager slaves to put out hotties for them etc.

If you're going to be in a cold part of the country over winter, you could always get a heated bed for him or let him use an electric blanket. Seniorboy has virtually no fat on him at all because he's most elderly but he managed fine throughout winter with an electric blanket and a fleecy throw. (And that in a house where we don't have blasting central heating all the time.)

Should be fine. Although dcat1 is another matter altogether.

We sadly lost our Mau recently and have desperately been trying to find a new Mau friend to fill the huge hole he has left in our family. Do you know of any reliable contacts for adopting a rescued Arabian Mau?
