The litter tray

my cat is sick :-(

He's been off his food for a couple of days, had a few hairballs. Today we came back to an almighty mess of sick, undigested food, bile and a very sad cat (we popped out for only two and a half hours)

Have emergency vets at half three. I moan about my cat, but we had just got him settled at night, in the house, happy with our new home and his new surroundings and I don't want him to be ill :-(

:-(

Thank you cozie. I have never really had a pet before - we did when I was growing up, but those cats and dogs were my parents. This was my cat, I rehomed him from a mumnetter three years ago, he was my company when I was a single parent, kids in bed or at their dads. He was nicknamed fat cat because he was huge. Not fat, just massive. I just guess I had pretended to myself "he was only a cat" and now I'm gutted. Can't help but feel bad :-(

And poor poor cat. He's only seven. He would have such fun playing with the kids cars and stuff. He was such a content cat :-(

Of course you feel bad. Remember, though, that he'll go quietly and free of pain with his person there.

Smokin, just read this thread. I'm so, so sorry. It is awful when a loved furry one goes - especially one who has been through so much with you. Thinking of you.

I am so so very sorry. I know how hard losing them is. Nothing I can say but just to let you know other people understand xxx all you can do is let him go pain free but in the knowledge he is loved. Xxx

Just one question OP, where are you based? I have had a message from a cat charity via Facebook about a cluster of antifreeze poisonings Sad

The vets were wonderful. Lovely boyfriend took me, I cried lots. Cat was so poorly, dry nose, dry fur, really tired. Spent a lot of time with him and 100% confident he passed peacefully, even vet said it. She was very good. I opted for a mass cremation and they scatter his ashes in a pet garden.

Thank you for all your messages.

Iwouldrather I am in the south east, nw Kent

So sorry, smokin.

There was a spate of cats being poisoned near Rochester if that's anywhere near you - but I would guess your vet would know of anything at her practice.

So sorry to hear this. Acute kidney injury is very serious and if causes by anti freeze the mortality is nearly 100%. I have saved one once in many years and that one had ingested v little. You can't wrap them up in cotton wool and if they go out (which is the right thing for most moggie cats) you take these risks. Please don't let it put you off having another cat in the future xx

Thank you everyone.

Boys have both been to build a bear and made themselves a cat they called the same name as our lovely cat. They are thoroughly distracted and happy with something to cuddle and play with. Worth the thirty pounds.

Though it is hard hearing them talking to their cats and calling his name, it is helping them.

I have just walked into the house and cried. Feels horrible. Think its going to be a long couple of days. Meant to be doing uni work but that can wait till tomorrow.

I'm two towns on from Rochester so not amazingly close.

I'm not sure about another. I can't deal with this again.

I am very thankful for my mum and boyfriend today. Mum had the kids and was great especially at short notice. Boyfriend is only of three months and still early, but he was lovely. He drove me, held my hand, talked to me, gave me time with my cat and then gave me tea and ice cream at his before I went to pick up the kids.

My poor cat bless him :-( rip FatCat as we often called him

I'm so sorry for your loss. There's no such thing as "only a cat" - they leave their little paw prints on your heart. Take solace in the fact that you ended his suffering as soon as you knew there was no hope for him and that he died peacefully - this board is full of people who wished they hadn't waited so long.

Queen, my ex husband said the same thing tonight - he had a cat years ago he got the vets to fight for a week for and he said he wishes he'd made the decision earlier.

All I've eaten today is chocolate and icecream. Feel shite tbh. My head hurts and still crying, its every time I walk in the kitchen and think I see him out the corner of my eye. I miss stroking him, his comforting prescense when we walked in the house or sat in the front room and he'd sit on the arm of the sofa next to you.

The kids have a friend to sleepover tonight. They are currently cuddling their new cat toys and laughing whilst watching the smurfs. They've both talked about him and ds1 got tearful and wanted a hug, but really proud of them x

Thank you. Ds1 has struggled a few times, and the toy cats have to be with them all the time. I've cried a few times, keep thinking I see him out the corner of my eye. Miss him a lot. Even his pita miaow!
