Very timid cat

I have three cats and two are kittens of about nine months who came from a rescue centre, a boy and a girl. They are both friendly and affectionate with me. However, if I have guests it's another matter. Girl kitten will be sociable enough and sniff around but the boy won't even come downstairs to eat, so petrified is he of people!

Any way I can get him to be a little less of a scairdy-cat? Grin

It may never happen. All my Siamese boys have thoroughly disliked strangers and go upstairs to the bedroom which is their safe territory. They'll eat up there and use their tray upstairs if there are people they don't know or like in the house downstairs.

I wouldn't worry about it. He might become more sociable as he gets older and he might not. As long as he has enough upstairs to meet his needs and a safe warm place to go, there's no need for even a workaround.

My cat us really timid and wouldn't come near any visitors for about a year after I got her (age 3). Now she's likely to run away from anyone coming in to the house but if they stay a while she eventually ventures out (too nosey!) and gradually now is becoming a bit more friendly (she's 6 1/2 so it's taken a while). She was a rescue cat as a kitten then I got her from another family so I think she's had a bit of a traumatic time do don't blame her! But if I get someone into feed her if I'm on holiday, everyone reports back on a very friendly affectionate cat after a few days!
