My cat is 14 ish .. Always been well but his back end has been a bit wobbly the last week or so . When he washes or shakes he wobbles , also going down the stairs he wobbles . Not falling over as such just wobbles . I have been watching him the last few days to see if its getting worse which I done think it is but not getting better . I will probably take him to the vets tomorrow but wondered if anyone had any ideas what would cause this .

Has he lost weight?
I took our cat to the vets as he was getting skinny, was generally unsteady on his feet and was eating and drinking a lot.

A few blood tests (and £95 later) he was diagnosed as having an overactive thyroid. He's happily taking 2 tablets a day and it is being well managed.

He's still not steady on his feet, but he is 18 and I think he is just getting a bit feeble.

Thanks for replying , he is fairly skinny anyway but maybe lost a bit of muscle . I never thought if thyroid although I can't get tablets in him so that could be difficult. He is always cold though now I think of it.

We can't normally get tablets into our Bruce either and thought it was going to be a complete nightmare, but the thyroid ones are tiny pink things that are easily hidden in a smidge of pate or something similar. He thinks all his birthdays have come at once because twice a day he is hand fed something scrummy.

It helps that he doesn't chew his food! And the alternative was an operation, which don't think he'd cope very well with at his age.

He could even have had a minor stroke. Really there's no point in guessing before you see the vet. Let's hope it's nothing serious. And yes as 2kidsintow said, putting tablets in pate is brilliant. I use Gourmet Gold pate. Because it's sticky it sticks to the tablets and they don't fall out when the cat eats it.

How did he get on at the vets?
