Eat, cat, eat!!

Elderly cat has pancreatitis, with high temp and not eating much. Fourth visit to vet in 5 days tomorrow. Temp going down but still not normal.

Just wanted to share the frustration of trying to get her to eat. Had to syringe feed her on Saturday and again a bit today, a friend helped once but have actually managed to do this several times on my own. It is odd cos she hates the process, of course, but then purrs cos she has had some food.

At one stage today there were 4 bowls around, among them were distributed: food for syringe feeding from vet (cat ate some of this under her own steam), whiting, pureed chicken and rice, pureed raw chicken, small amount of normal cat food. She has managed to eat a little of most of them. Plus a few Dreamies - don't know whether I should have given her them, but she didn't hesitate.

Been there - so I know what it's like. All the best to her and you.

Well, another injection, steroids to help her appetite. And need to resume heart meds (she has a murmur, but meds control it). She has deigned to eat raw chicken chopped up, and some normal cat food with heart meds in. Been signed off from vet, watching brief for next 3 weeks.

She now miaows when in cat basket, which she didn't last week. That must a good sign.

Poor puddy :-( When my cat was very sick, he would eat a bit more if I coaxed him by putting him on the worktop with his treat food then spoon feeding him and whispering to him and fussing him.

Worktop is good because it's high up and feels safer, it's also better because you can stand easily by your cat without hurting your knees.

Aw, poor pussycat. But she is eating, this is good.

Hope she feels better (and hungrier!) soon.

It's so stressful when they don't eat, been there done that. Poor puss and poor you.

My cat had a serious op following a car accident and we really struggled to get him eating again. One tip from the vet nurse was to heat food for a few secs in the microwave as the smell intensifies and becomes more appetising. Worked for us - poached chicken breast, torn into tiny strips, warm, got him going again when he refused all his old favourites (and yes, he had some Dreamies too Blush)

Fingers crossed for you both over the next few days.

Stuffed a heart tablet down her gob yesterday evening, much to her annoyance. I didn't think she was eating enough food to have had much - I usually grind it up and put it in her food.

Today she is eating again, properly! Caloo, calay! 6 injections, a blood test, and some nice vets, and me, have done the trick.
