Help - housing nightmare - need to do something with cat

The cat is part of the family so can't get rid of him!

Landlord has given us notice to leave (totally unexpected and out of the blue). We'd started looking at houses for sale with a view to moving next year just before she announced this but we're not going to complete in the time we have even if we find something this week.

We could rent but difficult to find a rental round here that will allow a cat, impossible to find short-term so purchasing would have to be abandoned - this would also cause school problems for DD as no rentals in the catchment area of our chosen school.

Other option is staying with inlaws until we complete on a house but cat can't stay with us as their dog would eat him and there is no where to keep him seperate apart from the bedroom DH, DD and I would be sharing - not practical given DD's interest in the litter tray!

He does go in the cattery but we could be looking at 6 - 8 weeks, have anyone of you had to keep your cat in a cattery this long or have any other ideas?

Whole thing isn't helped by the fact I'm 25 weeks into a crappy pregnancy and having a tough time at work so my coping reserve is running rather low!!

TIA

Oh no! Do you have any other friends or family who could cat-sit?

On the renting, even if they say "no pets" it is worth asking if they would be ok with one housetrained furry pussycat (i.e. not 5 huge dogs, which would be a different matter).

If you can afford the cattery I would be tempted TBH. The cattery we go to had some cats that were there because their owners were renovating the house and they were there quite a few weeks.

He will be safe and looked after.

Thanks for posting both.

Sadly no family/friends who could cat-sit for a variety of reasons - lots of dogs that are not cat friendly or unsuitable houses/flats Sad

Will visit a couple of the local catteries and see what they say about longer term guest.

i would say if you have no friends who can look after him, the cattery would be your best option, as you say it will only be for 6-8 weeks, when this country had quarantine animals used to survive 6 months in kennells or catterys try to find one that will let you visit even if its just once a week unless that would upset you too much having to leave again

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/09/2012 11:10

Quarantene is six months and animals survive that so 6 weeks should be ok.

Our landlord did that to us too.

Cattery definitely. Our two had to stay in for 3 months a couple of years ago, and they were fine. We could visit, and all of us enjoyed that. The only problem for ours was that they gained weight, which has proved impossible to shift permanently. (Vet agrees, don't roast me on that).
