Lump at base of tail: advice please

Wise MNers, my 8 month female fur-brain has a lump at the base of her tail. It's to the side of and under the tail. I can see the fur not sitting right and can feel the lump. If I squeeze it gently she squeaks Sad

My hunch is blocked anal gland or possibly an abcess.

It's Sunday and I can't get to the vet until tomorrow night. She's ok in herself, eating, playing etc as normal.

Do you think my diagnosis is correct and i don't need to rush her to the vet.

Does she go out and about? It could be a puncture wound from a bite from another cat/squirrel?

EnjoyGOLDResponsibly · 16/09/2012 10:24

Yes she does Sparkling that had xd my mind too.

Her fur is so dense I can't see punctures.

I'm wondering why this is exactly the sortbf thing that happens on a Sunday/Xmas eve/bank holiday.

I remember when Sparkling Cat had one she went very quiet and wasn't herself, and looked 'down' IYKWIM. The vet gave her antibiotics etc.

It sounds like she needs to see the vet to have a look at the lump, but I wouldn't rush unless she starts not being herself or seems in pain. Is she nibbling at it?

Pets at homes vets are open Sundays, it's where we take fluff cat when he's had the crap beaten out of him by other cats.

I'm sure they know it's a Sunday/bh.

I known exactly the "hang cat" expression you mean Sparkling, they almost lose the power to look smugly superior!

I'm going to keep an eye on her and take her in the morning.

That's good advice Fluffy turns out we have a PAH vet about 5 miles away. Who knew Smile

Yes, it's the 'all legs and paws underneath, and head nearly on the ground' look. Sad

Update: it was a HUGE abscess. The bet took her into a room and drained it it is wrong if me but I wanted him to film it for the sporners

Glad you went then Enjoy Is she ok now? Any idea what caused it? Sad

She's a fighter, not a lover Sparkling.

As the vet got her out of her basket he remarked on what a dainty little thing she was.

I could hear her going berserk in the treatment room. It reminded me of the cat that lives next door to Snoopy.

I predict many more trips to the vet in the future.

Our old cat was like that Enjoy. She sliced the vet's palm open with a claw-blood everywhere. Blush

Sparkling Cat doesn't mind the vets. Grin
