Don't really know what to do? Doors been open with the good weather and it seems to want to eat anything. We are veggie so I wouldn't expect our leftovers to tempt it but it was using its paw to get to the beans stuck at the bottom fo a can this morning. This is stuff waiting to be washed BTW, I don't put anything out for it can't vouch for DDs Hmm She is super friendly and playful.

I know the family's daughter a little from her playing out, she's a sweetheart and told me it is one of 2 surviving kittens of a cat her brother took in so I suspect not spayed and a 50/50 chance where she'll potentially have hers IFYSWIM. Would she have an obvious scar if she has been spayed? Could the hunger mean she is pregnant already?

I won't lie, I would adore an accidental cat but don't want to steal someone else's!

Indeed not - we don't need another CatGate!

Are you on good terms with the parent neighbours? Why not go and have a gentle word with them and alert them to the situation. (I'm sure you won't phrase it in such a way that they think you're accusing them of underfeeding it.)

Six Dinner Sid was he called? Grin

It may just be a gutsy pig of a kitten but a wee chat with the neighbours would probably be best - just so that they know what's going on.

Cats are usually fertile at 9th months old, when they don't look like a kitten anymore. This gives you an opportunity to say hallo to your neighbours as you have already spoken to their child, and say what a sweet cat/kitten she is as she visits you often and seems to have a craving for baked beens. You hadn't ever heard of a cat liking that. And keep your tone of voice adoring about the cat, never crtitical, and see what happens

Meowmi · 12/09/2012 13:49

Yes would mention it to the neighbours just to keep them informed.

Next doors cat will come in at any opportunity to get a free meal if he thinks its going begging, Even though he is well fed at home!!

I always let next door know that the cat has been in and last time i mentioned it, it turns out one of my own cats goes next door for a free dinner, even though i feed on demand!!

So we just leave them be!

Meowmi · 12/09/2012 13:54

Digerd, Cats these days can become fertile much younger. I once had a female who was just coming into heat at 5 months old. Vet agreed to immeadiate spaying even though the guidelines back then was 6 months.

You do hear of 6 month old kittens being pregnant which is so wrong and you will find most charities will spay any kittens before rehoming at a very young age because of this.

The 6 month thing is sadly often too late!

Oh and i forgot to add, I so have to get a copy of Six Dinner Sid!!

derekthehamster · 12/09/2012 14:07

We found our neighbours cat, in the middle of the night, sleeping on the bottom of our bed Shock Our cat was sleeping on the landing!

after we invested in a microchip catflap, he only comes in for lunch when the back door is left open!

cozietoesie · 12/09/2012 14:48

I bought a copy myself, meowmi !

Mine eats baked bean sauce if you let him too, and he def is not starved.

tabulahrasa · 12/09/2012 17:57

My cat steals - in no particular order...Blueberries, Strawberries, crisps, cake, chips.

She goes daft if we order in a curry and I've caught her eating rolls rather than her dry cat food Hmm

So really I wouldn't read too much into the bean stealing

cozietoesie · 12/09/2012 19:08

That is one weird cat, tabulahrasa.

tabulahrasa · 12/09/2012 19:11

I think teh problem is that she's fairly sure she's a person and can't understand why we keep trying to palm her off with cat food, lol

NCForNow · 12/09/2012 19:13

Then she IS a person tabulah

She just looks like a cat.

ratbagcatbag · 12/09/2012 19:16

How come I inherited the only stray that will now only deem Felix Sensations in fish flavours and nothing, and I mean nothing else is good enough?? we eat value baked beans on toast and her two pouches a day cost more than that.
I want a cat that eats anything!!!

BlackCatsAndPurpleDogs · 16/09/2012 10:50

Cats protection often neuter at 12 weeks, a friend of mine fosters cats and kittens.
If the family took in the mother cat, who went on to have 2 kittens, they might be grateful to you offering to have his one, its not cheap owning a pet.
