Lovely but cheeky stray

Around April a lovely male cat turned up in our garden. He was very vocal and obviously hungry so we fed him. Anyway, 5 months later he has moved into our glorified shed summerhouse. He has his own bed; his own food and drink bowls; even his own entrance and exit. Bit by bit, we seem to have taken responsibility for him.

However, we already have a cat; she was a rescue cat and is very nervous. She hates the new cat and is afraid of him. He is quite dominant towards our cat. They just about tolerate each other in the garden.

The problem is, with winter coming, I'm worried sick that the new male cat is going to be very cold and unhappy outside. He has made it very clear that he would like to come in and live with us. He's very persistent and cheeky; he will actually nudge us out of the way in order to get through the doorway! If we ever leave the door open, we can be sure that he will be inside the house somewhere.

He's a lovely cat and very funny, but I'm sure our own cat would be miserable if we let him in.

So...what can we do? I'm not sure I will be able to stand the guilt of him miaowing outside the door on a snowy day, but equally I wouldn't want my cat to be unhappy.

Help!

Is he neutered? If not that might make a difference in his general temperment. I would imagine that if he did move in your cat would get used to him, but I can see that's a gamble.

You could put her on zylkene while you do the whole introduction process of keeping them apart, swapping bedding over, then swapping over the parts of the house each has access to etc.

FWIW we had 4 cats in the same house who all detested each other and it wasnt that bad. They ignored each other most of the time.

YY to neutering. Have you checked he's not registered as missing at the local vets?
