Cat's been in a MASSIVE fight.

Our cat's attacked the neighbourhood tom, usually I just ignore fighting as most fights are just gobbing off at each other but he launched himself at the tom, when I screamed at them to stop (bet the neighbours love me) they both stopped, looked at me and hissed at me!.

I had to throw water over them to get them to stop and even then they carried on for a bit until I was able to grab ours by the scruff, By then he had noticed I was there and was deciding wether to attack me or the tom.

He's being quiet now and I think the pain has kicked in. He has a cut right over the top of his eye and it's bleeding a little bit.

I have a massive scratch off his back legs on my forearm covered in sudocrem and mepore plasters.

It was awful. I have to vent on here because DH will say "you should let them get on with it" but he's a bengal and they will quite literally fight to the death and I dont want him losing an eye or something. Not quite sure what something is but I dont want it happening to PFB (precious first bengal).

We should have had another chinchilla again, our chinchilla males knew when to stop.

So I have one very sorry for himself bengal. A picnic that will now have to go back in the freezer and I have to drive best part of 10 miles with an animal that doesnt do car journeys. Or cat carriers. And a sleeping DH who will say I'm over reacting by taking him to the vets for a cut.

Thank you for reading. I feel like having a little cry now

tried to answer earlier but mn kicked me off

Glad to hear he's ok, big shock for you, are you ok?

Brew for the shock and special treat for pfb.

They might have scraps and sort out a hierarchy for most of the time - unless a pert little hussy minced past in heat, in which case (given that one of them is likely a full tom) all bets are generally off for the duration.

Trouble is that while most neutered boys would likely give an aggressive full tom a pretty wide berth, there are some neutered cats, and some breeds in particular, that will stand their ground even if they're not the aggressors. Bengals are one of those breeds. They're pretty territorial as well if I recall?

And some cats just dislike each other - like people. It may not be your last vet visit.

I'm not kidding myself for a second that it's over, funny thing is that if you pick him up and he doesnt want to be held he goes all scissor paws on you and even dh cant hold him then (6'3" man) but I picked him up by the scruff and took him in and he let me so maybe he realised the other cat just wants it more.

He's had his antibiotics though, I've lightly swabbed his front paws in tea tree oil so he cant wash his face because he was messing with it.

I'm trying to avoid eye drops as I wouldnt like to have to give him those.

Thank you everyone, you really helped me this morning, I was in bits.

Sparkling Cat and the Burmese Terrorist went on for about a month after the original fight. BT would come into our garden looking for trouble. I would be ready with the bucket of water.

Then all of a sudden it just stopped. BT still lives a few doors down, and i see her every day but she doesn't come up here at all any more. Confused

We need to understand the cat rules I think.

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/08/2012 19:12

Apparently (I have a vague memory of this Blush) when he had his first fight when he was baby cat I was in the living room frantically trying to get my slippers on and shouting "dont worry fluffycat mommys coming".

Dh pissed himself.

I need a bucket of water handy I think, the water pressures rubbish here, it takes ages to get a bucket ready.

Get one of those flower sprayers - the kind that have a pressure pump in the lid. You can keep it by the back door and they go for yards and yards. Come in handy for domestic purposes as well.

Gosh what a start to the day. Glad it went okay at the vet and hope your lovely Bengal is fully better soon.
Bit weird to have someone else taking photos of him like that. I bet he is gorgeous, I would love a bengal some day. I don't understand why people don't neuter their toms.

Sparklingbrook · 21/08/2012 22:01

How's he doing Fluffy? Any sign of the other cat again?

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/08/2012 12:53

I havent seen him, no ones been round to complain about an injured cat either.

He's scared to go out now. I feel guilty, he was a country cat for the first 3 years of his life spent all day outside doing whatever a cat can do for 8 hours and now he's living near a road because we cant afford to buy a house in the country.

At least he's taking his antibiotics, he isnt showing signs of infection.

I need a supersoaker.

Thanks for asking.

Don't feel guilty, fluffy. If he chooses to be in, he's happier inside - it'll larn him not to scrap at least.

Good news that no infection showing.

Poor FluffyCat Sad

My ginger and white boy got into a scrap the other week (i didnt see it) and was sitting at the bottom of the garden for ages. When I got him in he couldn't weight bear on his front leg.

Took him to the vets cos I thought he had been hit by a car - turned out he had several puncture wounds in his armpits and the swelling was pinching his nerve.

Vets thought he might lose a leg because they couldn't tell if the nerve was severed SadSadSad

Overnight stay at vets, drip abs and painkillers, (and £250 lighter in the pocket) and he's fine now. But still comes home looking like a feral beast with raggedy ears and scars across his nose. Goodness knows who he is at war with - he's such a docile boy (and damn stupid) so he must be really upsetting some other cat!
