Advice needed on a possible stray/lost cat that followed me home.

Hi, I came across a cat earlier who was crying loudly by the side of the road. I knocked on doors and asked passers by but no one knows who it is. It is terrified of traffic and dogs beyond normal ranges and followed me home. None of my neighbours know it but have seen it before.

I have taken it in, told everyone I know, put a found poster up. Will do more tomorrow.

It is starving, jumpy but eating, drinking and cuddling. I don't want to put it out due to the heavy rain but don't know what to do?

Thanks for the fb tip, will try that.

Sorry to hear that lou, he has scratched ds and a neighbour so could be. I'm southern scotland. He's very chatty!

Envy

Cats never follow me home.

Gay40 · 17/08/2012 22:36

Oh he's beautiful! You are lucky. Cats never follow me home, although I have already got someone's unwanted cat and DP would have a fit if I brought home number 3.

Not a sniff of a stray cat/pregnant cat/kittens Tough. Sparkling Cat must be scaring them all off. Sad

NaturalNature · 17/08/2012 22:43

Blush one of my neighbours laughed and said I've got a friend for life another moaned about people abandoning cats

I've never been cat stalked by strange cats before so you never know, though he's just parked his arse like he's always been here Hmm Grin

No doubt his frantic owners will be looking for him so I'm not getting attached.

His pregnant other half/halves may turn up soon Natural. Shock

cozietoesie · 17/08/2012 22:52

Flaked out - and he is a cutie. 'twas the 'snoring' that gave the game away. That means he was in a real deep sleep - probably felt safe for the first time in yonks.

Love that '......so I'm not getting attached'. You just keep on saying that, girl!

Bossybritches22 · 17/08/2012 23:15

He is GORGEOUS we have always wanted a silvery tabby........

But NO my girlies would never allow a mere male into Bossydom, Fat Bossy Cat would freak out,ThinBossyCat would hiss & Brainless but beautiful BossyDog would sigh & consider moving to nice neighbours. Grin

Hope you don't find his owners, he seems to have voted with his paws.

NaturalNature · 17/08/2012 23:21

Cozie, that's not helping Grin he's just barricaded the living room door to stop me leaving!

What have I let myself in for???

Sparkling, ooo will I have to pay maintanence to a posse of angry she cats and kittens shall I save one for you

Bossy, I'm now out numbered by the menz ds is quite happy I keep trying to call out random cat names but he's only answering to "meow" atm.

No he isnt our cat, we are in Surrey and he is a different colour :) .

cozietoesie · 18/08/2012 06:34

Try him on 'Clarence' and see if he looks up.

Smile
Fluffycloudland77 · 18/08/2012 10:56

Oh he's gorgeous.

Have you taken him to the vets yet?

NaturalNature · 18/08/2012 12:32

Going down later, he's litter tray trained, no mess anywhere.

Have tried Clarence amongst others with no response, he did look up at Omelette though.

I was woken by a foot attack and then given a hand bath but he's following ds around. He doesn't want to go outside though.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 18/08/2012 12:45

Omelette it is then? (Or are you going to try a few more?)

Sounds as if he was a house cat turfed out. I could say 'lost' but he's either been lost for an awful long time or, given that he's starving, jumpy and not neutered, likely with previous owners who 'may not care too much if he's gone'. Even if you do find some, I'd point out to them that he's made himself at home with you now.

Good luck at the vets.

Smile
Sparklingbrook · 18/08/2012 12:46

I like the name 'Omelette' but you may look a bit odd shouting it out of the back door. Grin

NaturalNature · 18/08/2012 16:39

Sad he's a baby, well about a year old, no chip. Overly affectionate, healthy.

Will keep trying names as he's only looked with omelette, whisker and aragorn. No response to fluffy, tiger/tigger, big bollocks or einstein.

He's flaked out, full stretch on the living room floor.

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 18/08/2012 16:41

Clearly his previous owners were fans of Gavin and Stacey and the Lord of the Rings.

What will you do now?.

NaturalNature · 18/08/2012 17:28

Keep him, we've put posters up/let cats protection know, will phone round the other vets. Not much else we can do. Book him in to be neutered. Wait and see if his owners have been on holiday and his escaped?

He's eating normally today instead of the sheer desperation yesterday.

Looks like he's staying Smile

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 18/08/2012 17:33

Sounds like he's happy now. Well done. Smile

changeforthebetter · 18/08/2012 17:35

Aww! He is gorgeous!! Sounds like he is happy and you are hooked!Grin

NaturalNature · 18/08/2012 20:34

He is lovely, he's still asleep on the floor after getting up for some food. He's so house trained I really hope he's accidentally escaped rather than being turfed he's too cute

Oh well I'll give it a week then name him that's a week yesterday so 6 days to go

He hasn't answered to sphinx, tomato or ciabatta either. Any ideas anyone?

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/08/2012 20:35

Bertie.

Every other flipping animal at my vets is called bertie.

NaturalNature · 18/08/2012 20:42

Grin nope but maybe Oliver.
