This morning she was coughing and has also had a sloppy bowel accident outside. She wasn't interested in breakfast even though I didn't come down until after 9 and she wasn't about when DH left at 7. He normally feeds her before he goes. I had to put the plate under her nose to get her to come and ear.

Her back legs are a bit wobbly and I will take her for a jab on Monday to hopefully get some relief. She didn't wee over night so that is postiive but when I was comforting her when she was coughing it really hit me that she is very old and isn't my baby anymore Sad.

She has lasted for DD's birthday but I am not sure she will make her own Sad.

I have just put a towel on the sofa for her to sit on, just in case, but she wasn't impressed and has jumped down on to the floor.

My cat is getting to the end of her life and I am not sure I will ever get over it Blush.

She means the world to me, is the only thing in the world that is 100% mine, and I will miss her so much.

Have you phoned the vet, JustFabulous with details of the night and day peeing, the reaction to your prod and the 'walking gingerly'. They might have a view on that. It sounds as if she might have some pain.

I know you won't want to take her up there unnecessarily at her age but it might be a good idea?

JustFabulous · 04/10/2012 10:16

She is on capsules for the innappropriate weeing but they re not doing anything. She has always been stroppy and he knows she has leg trouble so not sure what he could do. She is due back in 2 weeks for another injection I think. Will go and check when she is due and do a list for her accidents and see if there is a pattern between the previous 2 jabs. Back soon.

JustFabulous · 04/10/2012 10:19

The only thing the vet doesn't know about is her lucking the sofa and carpet as I forgot to tell him. He knows she has been eating random food (ice cream, custard, chip shop chips and peas.)

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 04/10/2012 10:22

It's a hard call. I would do most anything not to have to take cozieseniorboy to the vet because he hates leaving the house so much.

JustFabulous · 04/10/2012 10:24

I'd give them a wee phone with that info (and the rest in your morning post) for advice. You don't have to actually take her up there but it may be that the vet would recognise symptoms and be able to make recommendations/give meds.

JustFabulous · 04/10/2012 10:30

Sorry, licking the sofa, not lucking.

OP posts:
JustFabulous · 04/10/2012 10:30

Oh crap. Scared. But will ring now.

Thanks.

Thinking of the pair of you - and just about to go upstairs and give cozieseniorboy an extra big hug.

JustFabulous · 04/10/2012 10:55

That didn't go well.

My vet is away. Options are to see someone else. One vet said it was the end in a few days. FABCat has lived at least 3 months since and the other wanted to put her on morphine. Basically I can't trust them so we will have to sit it out until our usual vet is back.

Receptionist wasn't interested in any kind of support.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 04/10/2012 10:57

Ah well - keep an eye on her. But I can totally appreciate that you want the vet you trust to deal with her.

JustFabulous · 06/10/2012 09:27

In 18 days she has weed in the wrong place ten times with 6 consecutive mornings we have come down to a puddle. Is this the start of the end?

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 06/10/2012 15:20

Just

She's an old, old girl. You know the score. Just don't let it go longer than you have to - but maybe wait and see what your trusted vet says.

Thinking of you both.

cozietoesie · 06/10/2012 15:23

And you know I speak as one who may have to face this any moment now.

JustFabulous · 06/10/2012 15:41

I can read that you say she is old but it doesn't compute as she has survived so much. I think the vet is running out of ideas but also knows I won't have her pts just because I have to clean up her wee unless it is because she is suffering. I just don't know if she is. A neighbour said if a dog is in pain their fur sticks up. Is that true with cats too?

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 06/10/2012 15:46

Poor you. Sorry but I missed this thread. What is wrong with Fab. Sorry missed that too. My poor boy didn't have sticky up fur exactly but a non groomed look and sat sort of hunched.
You have my deepest sympathies. We wept buckets!

cozietoesie · 06/10/2012 15:53

Yes it does compute, Just. And I'm afraid that none of my cats have ever been in bad pain (just failing) so I don't know about the fur thing.

I read somewhere - 'There's life - and then there's life worth living.'

I think you need to have a long hard think over the next few days. Do you think she's enjoying peeing otherwise than her place?

I recall with my darling boy two ago that I let him go too long because I couldn't bear him to be gone from this world. I was wrong. Think about it.

JustFabulous · 06/10/2012 15:57

She appears to still enjoy life. She still shouts at us if we take too long to feed her. She still makes her way closer to Daddy in the evening as it gets closer to 9pm which means biscuits and bed time. She goes outside to sunbathe and still cries when picking up her toy. I don't think it is time. But what if I am wrong? I would never want her to suffer.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 06/10/2012 16:09

It's so difficult. You read what you want to into things. All I can say is that it's best to go out on a high - let her have smelled the grass and Mom's perfume and go with that. You don't want her to go because she has to with her innards failing.

I've been there Just.

Wolfiefan · 06/10/2012 16:09

Our poor boy was clearly not happy. He would never groom or certainly play with toys. It's so hard to know the moment it's the right time though. She's eating and playing? I would say it is not yet but you know your pet best.

JustFabulous · 06/10/2012 16:12

Oooo, that bit about having to go is an eye opener but then I think what if I let her go too soon and she could have had another 6 months? I always ask the vet if it is time each time we go and he says I will know but he says in his opinion it isn't time yet. My 7 year old asked if we would have her for Christmas yesterday and I said we have to prepare ourselves for not being. For ages we have joked she will out live us all and in he next 2 weeks I am having tests for cancer in two places. Good job I am a fighter.

OP posts:
JustFabulous · 06/10/2012 16:13

She is still eating though I think she has developed pica too.

OP posts:
JustFabulous · 06/10/2012 16:15

DH is on FABWatch to tell me if I am in denial or haven't realised. I love her. I want her end of life to be as kind as it can be as I have looked after her for 18 years and done my best for her.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 06/10/2012 16:18

Just - she's 18! She's as old as old.

I would always, now, let one of my boys go too soon rather than leave it too late.
