Would you be offended if a close friend or relative sent flea treatment to your house?

My mum's cat (who is currently living with my sister) has fleas. My sister cannot afford to treat it properly and is using supermarket products on it, which clearly are not working.

She's also using Bob Martin spray around the house, which again is not working.

I have the cat's old prescription here and can see she is/was prescribed the same flea treatment as my cat.

I thought I would order some and send some on to my sister along with a can of indorex and some wormer but then I realised while my sister would be happy with this, it might offend her new partner?

I don't want him thinking I believe they can't look after their own cat. Also they have dd1 with them atm who is allergic to fleas and suffering quite badly, so I don't want them to think I am suggesting they cannot look after her properly either.

If your sister is not proud about it then I would offer to send some when I ordered what I use on my own.

I understand your dilemma. I'm thinking of how to handle a similar situation regarding nits!!!

"I'm having a clearout and I've got a load of flea treatment left over from when we had fleas. Would it be any use to you?"

That might work on the partner as long as dd1 doesn't blab. We are quite vigilant with flea stuff here because dd1 and the dog are both allergic. Dd1 comes out in huge hives (she appears to be like a gourmet meal to fleas) and the dog attempts to cannibalise itself, no one else gets bitten, so we never have any left over stuff, as everything is done monthly.

Dd1 has already sent me a message asking me to make sure our cat does not have fleas for when she comes home.

I've already re Indorexed the whole house ready for her coming back in case she brings fleas back on her socks or in her teddies.

OTOH I am fairly sure the partner knows I often take on financial responsibility for my parent's pets when something unexpected comes up, this is why I have the prescription in the first place. I was the last person to order the flea treatments for the cat.

I would approach it as "as you have been good enough to take on the cat and i feel a bit guilty that i haven't been able to help out, i feel i should contribute to the financial side of it" She is throwing money away on bob martins as im sure you know so its better if you can get her some proper stuff. Im not sure if frontline still produce the spray but we used to offer a one of spray for about a fiver at the vets i used to work at so maybe suggest that if you don't think she will accept financial help.

That's a good idea LEM. That would make sense as they did take the cat as a favour to my parents.
