How to create a stimulating home for indoor cat

Hi

I would like to create more stimulation for my indoor cat without turning my home into a mess, tall order am afraid

She has a scratch box and toys but has little interest

She is nearly 3 so still loves things that move etc

She has her own room with three shelves she sits on, a blanket, raised surface for laying on

She has access to hall, bedroom and lounge during day (not lounge when we are out) do she has a window ledge to sit on

Would like more things to stimulate her in these rooms, any ideas?

Thank you

maybe you could attach dangly toys from the shelves things like feathers on strings, there are some toys that are a ball inside a ring with paw holes that the cat can chase the ball round my lot love thiers, grow some cat nip in a square pot for her to nibble on

I set up a cat tower by a window, with a bird feeder outside, so he can watch them feeding and flying. He loves it.

Have you tried Da Bird? Even my older lazy cat loves it.

Also if you put some kibble type treats inside a bottle with a small opening cut out of the side, and the edge secured with selotape so it isnt sharp they love patting the bottle around to get the food out.

Mine loved, and still do at 4, little scrunched up paper balls to bat around. Im always finding them under furniture.

Also, they have stolen all of DDs linking ring things. They have been known to come and take them oout of her hand and run away with them Grin

I have a bird table outside so that they can sit by the window and watch. And an outside light in the evening to attract moths.

It will help if you can make playtime for her each day, because she'll enjoy playing with you more than playing on her own.

Those cheap plastic balls with a bell in seem to be the best toy for my cats. Da Bird is good. I feed my cats with an 'eggcersizer' - there are several similar things, balls/eggs with holes in so that kibble or treats fall out when they roll it around. Kitsonkittykat's idea of a home-made version is great.

It's great that she has shelves, as cats like to use vertical space.

Another cat might be the best, but it depends as some cats are more social than others. If she's always been an only cat, she might not take too kindly to a new one.

Get a catnip toy

The feline adivisory bureau's website has loads of great tips. Also search for Mike Lapin he is a feline tertiary referral specialist in Colorado who has extended his house to enrich the environment for his cats who have to live indoors due to the cougars that visit his garden. He has loads of great tips for cats .
