Burial advice :-(

changeforthebetter · 23/07/2012 15:11

One of the Changecats has been diagnosed with cancer and probably only has a few weeks at most. When the time comes I would like to bury him in the garden. I have no idea how deep the hole needs to be to stop him being dug up Sad

Sorry, this is rather gloomy but needs must.

Thanks. Sorry about your cat.

That's a good idea - it will stop the others digging away at it Sad

Sorry about your cat Change :-( I got my girl's ashes back today.

The planter is a nice idea.

I am very sorry your cat is so ill.Sad All i can say re burial is do dig deep if you have any foxes about. Something heavy on top doesn't always do the trick as foxes will tunnel in to get the body out. When we buried our terrier at Easter, we went a good three feet down, and our chicken is at least two feet under, neither of these were disturbed at all.

My vets offered a cremation service for my old cat when she had to be PTS - is this an option offered by yours?

MrsGrumps · 26/07/2012 13:09

I've had my last two cremated individually and keep their ashes close to me.

But my parents garden has quite a little pet cemetary going on, it is well into double numbers now. All are down as deep as that time of year allows and are covered over with multiple paving slabs for several months until such time local foxes will no longer be able to sniff the scent of them.

I'm sorry for you impending loss, the hardest part of being owned by a cat :(

OneHandFlapping · 26/07/2012 13:18

We had a much loved cat cremated, buried his ashes, and planted a tree in the hole.

Strangely our two existing cats are often to be found lying on the circle of bare soil at the base of the tree. It is touching that it also seems to be a special place for them too.

I'm sorry your cat is ill. I know how upsetting it is.

I looked into this when my previous cat was PTS (also cancer). it was really expensive and not individual. That was a different vets. Will ask.
