Behaviour after castration

My 2 little cats had the op yesterday. Since yesterday afternoon one of them in particular has been exhibiting quite manic behaviour. They are both live-wires who chase each other round the house and then collapse in a heap cuddled up to each other and grooming each other. Generally sweet-natured and great around the kids. One of them just seems really wired - he's jumping at imaginary stuff, swiping at everything and his claws seem to be out a bit more. Could this be the effects of the anaesthetic still? Will he calm down.

I obviously expect this k

oops sneezed and accidentally posted! I obviously expect kittenish behaviour but this is more manic and jittery then that. I was expecting them to come home all dozy and docile. More fool me! He just had a swipe at a strap hanging off my sleeve and has given me a rather sharp scratch that's bleeding Sad

We will be letting them out at the weekend for the first time (they'll be just shy of 17 weeks then). Am hoping they will burn off a lot of energy racing round the garden.

One of mine came back from being spayed completely wired to the moon, trying to climb walls, running up curtains and almost hanging off the light fittings, lol

I can only assume it was a reaction to the drugs...It wore off, though I don't remember how long it took.

Yes, tabulahrasa that sounds like a similar reaction! He has moments of curling up and purring on your lap and then flips out again. Let's hope it's not too long before the drugs are out of his system!

Is he better today op?

cartblanche · 21/07/2012 15:15

He's slightly better - just lying on the bed with his brother asleep. Still a wee bit jittery and we have to keep stopping him rooting around in the area of the op (the vet said we had to stop them as much as we could). Easier said than done Grin
