Are there any skin conditions that cats and humans can both get?

Poor iggy went to the vets last weekend as he has an abcess on his stump (where his tail was amputated last month) he also had several sore patches of skin next to the abcess. The abcess has shrunk but still there and the sore patch of skin has got worse Sad, i also have a similar sore patch on my arm (looks a bit like impatigo), could i have caught what ever it is the cat has? what could it be?

I really cant afford to go back to the vets (the cat has cost me over £550 in vets bills over the past 2 months), the cat seems happy but keeps licking and making its back end bold Sad.

ringworm?

bumpybecky · 13/07/2012 19:12

ringworm is transmissible (is that a word?) between animals and humans, but I don't think it looks like impetigo

could it be ringworm?

hazeyjane · 13/07/2012 19:13

crossposted! I would have a look on google images, it does have that crusty look that impetigo has.

Will have a closer look at the cat when it gets in, the patch on my arm is tiny, not sure if it really looks like ringworm (doesn't seem to be a ring around it but its hard to see).

Have just treated the cat with advocate, does that cover ringworm? or will it need to be treated with something else? (if it is ringworm).

cats and dogs often itch their back/bottom area when they have fleas - our dog gets contact dermatitis whenever she has fleas and takes nearly all of her fur off, leaving a red scaly area :(

wouldn't exlpain the patch on your arm though....

Maybe my arm is something else? Grin (or maybe caused by a flea bite)

The vet said last week that flee's could cause it but she couldn't find any signs of fles on the cat, she told me to treat him anyway which i did a few days ago but it seems to be getting worse Sad. I thought maybe it was due to the licking of the abcess? I'm probably going to have to take him back to the vets with the abcess as it still hasn't completely gone, it looks like it maybe caused by a stitch that hasn't desoled from his tail removal but vet says its unlikely as it has been a month and a bit sinse surgery.
