Where to start when looking for kittens?

DD has been desperate for a kitten for a few years and DH and I have now decided we are happy to buy one since we are settled in to a house finally. I am thinking about getting 2 as I work 3 days a week and wouldn't want it to be lonely. DDs birthday is in 10 weeks and we thought picking up the new kittens up on her birthday would be a lovely surprise. So I guess kittens being born around now would be the ones we would buy/rescue. How do I find them? When do people advertise litters?

ask the cat protection league , they have endless kittens needing homes,

Yes, get in touch with the CPL. Tell them you would like male or female, long or short hair etc They will look for kittens that sort your criteria. It's now kitten season. Smile

They will come and do a home check and have a chat with you about your requirements. Current donation is 40 pounds per cat.

Good luck!

Kittens. the local animal charity (in Ireland) I volunteer for is flooded with them (120 last count). I'd imagine that every rescue is the same, just ring and ask for whatever gender, colour, temperament you want. I'm sure they'll have the kittens for you. We let people have a trial (foster) before they commit, to make sure that the cats or kitten fit with the family.

The cats protection or a local rescue centre to you. Definately NOT a pet shop.

issey6cats · 01/07/2012 18:46

catchat.org website will bring up all the rescues in your area and two kits is definitely a great idea as they will grow up together and be twice the fun my foster kits went back to the rescue center yesterday and its too blooming quiet here today

Another vote for CP here. Ask them to microchip them before you get them. At the vet a microchip is about £20-30, but CP can do it for much less because they have trained volunteers.

They may also give you a voucher for neutering.

Cat's Protection or local rescue. Do not buy from Gumtree, breeder, random person etc. Help an abandoned cat and don't help line the pockets of people making money out of cats.

If you live anywhere near Croydon go to Croydon Animal Samaritans. Lovely people - we got our two cats from there.

are you in west london by any chance??

AngryFeet · 03/07/2012 11:25

I am actually based in Croydon. DH decided to fill in the CPL form last night so we are going to see if they can help us. Are they bothered by fussiness? I know it sounds rubbish but we do want kittens and preferrably not white. Will look at the Croydon Animal Samaritans site now. Thanks :)

CP won't mind about fussiness. I wanted a one year old female in one colour. Grin Pic on profile. She is a sweetheart.

kittens and colour choice are something rescues are used to maybe just be prepared to wait a little while for the choice you want
