Which pet insurance do I need? worried about RTA more than illness

I want a policy that if the cat is, god forbid, run over and needs surgery will not spare any expense getting him put right.

Pet plan is quoting £20 a month for £12,000 cover or £15 for £7,000 cover.

I use Pet Plan and have had to claim when my cat got run over. They were brilliant, paid it all directly to the vet. £12,000 is a lot to insure, do you really need that much cover? When my cat was run over he had his jaw wired, was tube fed for 6 weeks plus meds etc and the total was about £1,500.

I use MoreThan for £15 a month. When my cat was ill recently the vet's bill was £2,500! Shock

Bloody glad I took out that policy and MoreThan were brilliant - got the cheque within the week.

My cat is insured with M&S and they were brilliant when he was hit by a car. The vet sent the bill direct to them so I was never out of pocket.

He was very badly injured - had to have his jaw wired and pins put in his leg. He had to live in a cage for a few weeks to stop him running around too much. It was probably a few months of back and forward to the vet before he was fine again.

I dont really know how much cover he needs, I only had one cat run over when I was little and he escaped with a bruised retina.

I'm worried about orthapaedic surgery costs, I've got visions of him needing expert care and false joints fitted, the lot.

It would be cheaper to put an electric fence around the garden wouldnt it?

Insure him to the maximum you can afford. The vast majority of our huge vet's bill was to pay for the MRI Scan which was over a £1000.

It is worth it just for the peace of mind it brings. I would be horrified if I had to make the decision whether she was treated or not for reasons that are purely financial.

I couldn't put a price on my little cat.
