HELP NEEDED

Hi everyone, I have an 11 year old female cat who up until last October lived with an older cat. Holly is a timid cat, but friendly and will sit on your lap when it suits her. She really seemed to miss Thomas when he died last year but did actually seem to come out of her shell abit. Two weeks ago we took in 2 nine week old kittens through the cats protections. They are fine and have settled really well. Holly however is terrified of them. For the first couple of days she stayed outside (not at night though) and would not eat. We left the kittens in one room so she didnt need to confront them. We put one of their blankets in her bed in the hope that she would get used to their smell. The one time she came face to face with one of them her eyes widened like saucers and she starting growling and opening her jaws and started hissing, then ran away. What should I do? I dont want her to live her life is fear am feeling very guilty. She continues to stay out of the house all day long hiding in the bushes and is extremely hesitant to come in. She now has her food upstairs so she is eating and is sleeping at night in her normal place but will not go anywhere downstairs.
Many thanks

Give them time, Holly may start feeling more at ease as time goes on, you could try some Feliway spray but you are doing everything right, with transferring the scents, another thing if you had a crate of any kind would be to put the kittens in the crate for a while each day so Holly has the time to wander round and go up and sniff at them, so she can see they are no threat to her, it can take some time but they usually work it out between themselves.
