what does it mean? They sit for ages and "talk" to them....its not a miaow, its a chattering noise and always makes me laugh....id love to know what they are saying!

my old moggies didnt do it - these two sit at the door and talk to them, sometimes the birds talk back...one of my moggies is not a hunter, the other one is, but they both talk to the birds.

im sure it must mean something and there must be an explanation....

My kitten will also put her paw on the back door window when she sees a fly, bird or cat...and her paw sort of shakes Confused

One of our does this, and she definitely is not a hunter. I've never had a cat that did it before so the first time she did it I nearly died of terror and thought she was having some kind of fit! She draws her lips back in a really funny way and the clicking makes her cheeks wobble.

She doesn't make any effort to get off her backside, just clicks at them!

MIL said that they do it to mesmerise the birds....not convinced....birds seem distinctly un-mesmerised.

I've always thought it meant this "What are you doing sitting on the lawn in MY garden. You do know I am a cat you idiot bird and I could kill you if this window was open. I swear I am going to get you if you land there again because you are causing me serious disrespect. You hear me don't you?"

My late lamented moggy used to do this. V odd as she rarely went out - we had a cat flap but she preferred to spend most of her time indoors. She would just sit on the windowsill chattering. I always assumed she was swearing at them and telling them just what she would do to them if she wasn't too busy guarding the window. She only caught a bird once as far as I know.

Current cat doesn't chatter and has never brought a bird home - plenty of mice but no birds (yet).
