she is 2 years old and never had a calling, is there something wrong with her?
I can't seem to find anything on google so thought I'd ask in here

I'm getting a bit worried about her, should I take her to the vets to get checked over?

I'd be delighted, personally! We had the Schadenkitten "done" at nine months, and she had never come into season, which the vet commented was "unusual".

we got her when she was 7-8 weeks old so I know she hasn't been spayed, It's just so odd and I don't know what's wrong with her

I think the obvious answer here is that only a vet can tell you why you are cat has not gone into call.

You don't sound like a breeder - so why would you not get her spayed? I get the impression that being in call is not pleasant for queens (or humans living with them).

Maybe this sounds stupid...but could she be infertile? Can cats' be infertile? Confused

cheekycurls · 28/05/2012 16:28

no I'm not a breeder, haven't had her spayed as she's an only cat who don't go out and she's always seemed too small, she's tiny, people still think she's a young kitten.

I have been on google to see if cat's can be infertile, yes they can

haven't taken her vets as she's not in pain and it's just seems a silly question but maybe I should, just to get her checked over

no she's a silver/grey tabby cat, I've read cats can be infertile or can not carry kittens but they are still coming into season, just not falling pregnant.
Not read anything about a cat simply just not having a season

I think we had a cat who had an ovarian problem which meant she couldn't have kittens for some years (and was probably in some pain, poor thing). I would take her to the vets and have her done (better safe than sorry) and make sure she's not got any internal problem you haven't discovered yet.

Ginger females aren't sterile. It's just that ginger, being caused by a recessive sex-linked gene on the X chromosome, is much rarer in female cats than in males - similar situation to colour blindness and haemophilia in humans.

Female cats need two doses of ginger genes to become ginger, males only one. Females with only one dose will usually turn out some sort of tortoiseshell. All ginger females will have a ginger father and a ginger or tortoiseshell mother. Males only need the mother to be either ginger or tortoiseshell - it doesn't matter what colour the father is. If the mother is ginger, all her sons will be. If the mother is tortoiseshell, on average about half her sons will be. The colours of her daughters are harder to predict, since it depends also on the colour of the father.

Tortoiseshell "males", if they exist, will always be infertile, since they would really be females who have been masculinised through some accident.

Could it be that she doesn't have any contact with tom cats? My only experience is with dogs but our female sheepdogs never had a season because they didn't have any contact with male dogs.

Until we got a male dog upon which they both came into season at once Hmm

They both then realised he was no use to them as he's been done and have never had another season since. One is 6, the other 2. It's fab but we would like pups in a couple of years...
