I have just received my first "present".

Casper just came bounding in through the cat-flap at full speed with a teeny little bird in his mouth (luckily dead). He placed it on the floor in front of me, gave a little chirrup and seemed ever so pleased with himself. I started to chastise him immediately and got rid of it pretty much straight away. Casper seemed distraught that it had gone so quick and spent about 10 mins going back to sniff the floor where he left it.

I know that it's only natural for cats to hunt and was expecting it at some point, but it was so sad to see that poor, pitiful little body. Should I not tell him off when he brings them to me? I suppose it's a bit pointless as it won't stop them. I know cats do see them as presents too. What do you all do when you receive an unwanted present?

Hi Rollergirl. We got our first present yesterday, and this was also a chick. We were quite upset and did the same as you did, but then later in the day she brought in another one!

There is a nest in the trees and we can hear them chirping, we're keeping a close eye on out cat.

It's horrible having to clean that mess up :(

You could always get one of these! Grin

Our cat use to do that. The worse was a mouse that was still alive but missing half its body - DP had to stamp on it to put it out of its misery. We invested in a bell for moggys collar - it worked a treat.

Funnily enough our cat is desperately trying to get in with his first present. He's just over a year old & we've had him around 3 months.

What's the etiquette here? Should I get rid of it while he isn't looking? Have to say I'm a bit comforted by the fact that he can look after himself Smile

Oh no, Kitten cat has found a nest somewhere, two 'presents' already this morning :(

Dh says if he brings anymore in today he has to stay in !

Mine brought me a present the other week and sat and ate it before I even had chance to "appreciate" it (I was lying in bed and she was beside the bed having a good old chomp)
