cat attacks

My cat is quite nervy and only likes being stroked from behind. She is so loving - as soon as you sit down she wants to be on your lap being stroked but after she's had enough will just attack out of nowhere. I always get such a shock.

Anyone else have experience of this? I have to just accept it's part and parcel of stroking heri think :-\

Yes, they like to tell you when they have had enough stroking. Smile Just stroke her for a short time then stop.

Blimey - what kind of attack? I assume not just the friendly 'hold your finger in their teeth' way that cats like to do to show affection?

No just one vicious scratch then she runs off :-o We have to treat her with kid gloves. Not sure why - we got her at thirteen and she'd spent her previous years with a lovely old lady so traumatic past or anything.

*no traumatic past

You need to learn the signs of when she is starting to have enough - and stop as soon as they start. It may be very subtle, but as you get to know each other better you will start to be able to tell.

One of my cats just gets up and wanders off when he has had enough, but the other does this and even after 4 years he gets me sometimes.

Yeah i usually get about two seconds notice. I can tell by the way she looks at me thinking get off b*tch

Rules out watching the telly while giving her a stroke :-\

i have this too. i have to keep telling dd not to over stroke her. i can't stroke her when watching tv as i can't see 'the signs'. stroppy sods some of them tbh but i haven't been 'got' for a while, i am very wary of her although she too is generally very affectionate. i love stroking her tum' and in the right mood she loves it too, other moods i wouldn't dare! not if i want to retain use of my hands :D

Bitofcheese. Ditto re the tummy thing. Pie once got my poor old dad. Rolled over on her back, tummy in air, so my dad obliged with a little stroke and bam! Venus fly trap :-o My dad swears it was premeditated lol.
