Kitten having first Season (on heat?) Help!

I have 2 kittens (6 months old). I came home this afternoon to find one of them in season - sorry don't know the correct term - she seems so distressed, yowling and rolling about.

Spoke to Vets re bringing their neutering forward but its not possible, Vet said nothing I can do for her other than let her get on with it. I feel useless though!

And now a MASSIVE tom cat has just pissed right up my door.

Sorry just needed to share. I have 3 dds, if I can't manage this, how the Hell will I get through puberty with them? Grin

Hi Wisdom

Been there, done that! It's heartbreaking seeing them so upset and wanting something they can't have!

It shouldn't last too long, then she'll be fine once she's been 'done'!

A thought though - is your other one an un-neutered boy? If so, you may want to keep them apart! They mature surprisingly early! Unless you want the pitter patter of lots of little paws?? Grin

Good luck, you might want to get some earplugs for the non-stop yowling!

CrazyCat no they're both female.

She kept me awake half the night, rolling about outside my bedroom and scratching on the door to get in! She was a bit upset this morning but has slept pretty much all day.

It's the wee look of confusion on her face, like she hasn't a clue what's going on, poor baby :(

I've even walked to Farmfoods and back to get her favourite plastic ham for a treat, Grin

Sorry you just have to put up with it, I had a similar situation with a stray I took in late last year, the first few days were the worst, after day three there was less yowling.

Shush shush in a calm voice seemed to help, and she ........er....... 'presented herself' to any male, animal or human.

She was also more playfull - would chase her tail so I spent a lot of time playing with her.

Just keep your fingers crossed the other one doesn't come into season at the same time.

My vet did the op about 10 days after the start of the season.

Thanks sashh :)

She's a lot calmer now and thankfully (so far) the other one hasn't shown any signs.

The most difficult part has been explaining to my dds why she's behaving "funny" :)

shouldnt be too long before you can get her neutered see if the vet will neuter the other one before she comes into season, the rescue i work at our vet neuters at ten weeks, that way you wont have to go through the tart stage twice lol

Thanks issey, they are booked in for middle of May, the vet can't bring it forward due to being fully booked up (single vet practice) so I'll just have to get through, she's mostly sleeping now the wee lamb :)
