My cats keeping bringing me mice :(

And live energetic ones at that.

I can cope with dead mice, but I am getting one live mouse every couple of days dropped at my feet - and I then have to spend the evening chasing the damn thing.

Any tips to stop my cats being such avid hunters?

You can't stop them catching things but you can stop them bringing their Booty back.

Sadly dcats are now with the catnip in the sky but they only brought prey back a couple of times. I'm going to preface this to say the cats were much loved and they knew it and on the whole quite pampered, as this does kind of sound a bit mean.

When we spotted them with prey we would pretend to be aggressive and take the prey and chase the cat into the garden. Or if you can't get to the prey then chase the cat with the prey away. No screaming/ fear/ talk about presents/ letting the cat near the prey etc. After a couple of attempts they always decided to keep the poor mice in the bushes and not bring inside. Which was a relief to everyone!

Anyone noticed this threat is from 2012!

They'll be taking you out in the garden next to show you how to prowl through grass silently and then you'll have to learn how to wiggle your bum and pounce.

Yeah why DO they do the bum wiggle thing?

I think they just like to bring them in to play with on their own turf. They aren't hunting for food, but the instinct is hard wired in them.

When I play with the kitten and he gets hold of the toy, he always takes it off to if 'his spots' to maim it - so I guess that is the same instinct at play to go home to a safe spot with your kill?

Ooh, MCat used to be a wanker for doing this. DH (when he was alive) and I would have to check our shoes for mice. He found one in his coat pocket after a half hour journey once.

Feel your pain about the screaming frogs, Jux. Came home one day to the shouts/screams of an infant. Except it wasn't. It was Little M carefully patting a frog down the stairs. Frog obviously not happy with the situation.

Mine is an expert live mouser too. I am an expert at chasing them out of the house with a broom. He caught a rabbit the other day and was found stretched out beside it proudly in the hallway. Dead thankfully. I chucked him and the rabbit out where he then proceeded to entertain the dc for me by playing with it and eating it. They got a good biology lesson identifying all the organs as he ate them.

Well... after writing in here about my cat bringing in a alive mouse and not sure what else to do I came home to a dead pigeon in the lounge. Blood up the walls too. I can't talk to her I'm so upset. Angry

Birds are the worst. The bloody feathers everywhere. He sits at the top of the stairs and PLUCKS them...
