tree climbing kitten

Our 6mth old kitten has started going out in the garden in the last two weeks, all well and good, stays in garden, comes into view when called (wont necessarily come straight in though).
He has now found the delights of climbing the trees and conifers!!
Two days in a row now we've had to get the ladders out and get him done - we have tried leaving him to come down on his own but think he's a bit young to leave up there for hours to learn a lesson AND learn how to get down.
DH now thinks kitten has learnt that if he cries enough we'll go up there and get him.
Anyone else got a cat that loves climbing trees?

how long have you left him? Personally I would leave him until dark or at least until next mealtime (and leave his bowl at the bottom of the tree) before considering mounting a rescue [hard hearted person whose cats were "free range" by 6mo]

About half an hour!
I know, I'm too soft!

We had to make an emergency dash to the petrol station at 7am the other day, as when we got up we found a snow storm of toilet roll in the bathroom, the little tinker had shredded the last two rolls!!

Mine took ages to learn how to get down. Even at 3 it's more of a controlled fall for the last 18 inches than a graceful leap.

I really wouldn't worry. We also have 6 month old kitten. He was going out supervised into the garden at 5 months. From the 2nd day he was out I was looking out of my DS's bedroom window (upstairs) and saw kitten at eye-level with me up a conifer, must have been at least 25ft! I panicked and went racing out there to try and get him down. He made his own way down eventually but it took a while. Now I don't bat an eyelid. I promise you he will manage to get down on his own.

Tell your DC to shimmy up there after him (cats soon learnt how to get down if the alternative was being stuck up there with my kids).

Our cat was on the roof of our house. She was about 2 and has only 1 hip. She got down ok.

tb -we live in a bungalow so I guess its just a matter of time before he finds himself on the roof!
