Poorly cat

I'm worrying about our cat... she disappeared for a few days during the week (most unlike her) and I know she didn't eat anything while she was gone. Since she came back she's eaten very little and spent most of her time sleeping in her basket. She now hasn't eaten since Thursday and is gazing into space and barely moving. She has got up once and was very wobbly bit wouldn't even eat a tin of tuna. She's visibly lost weight.

I'm taking her to the vet shortly but have a horrible gut instinct that something is very wrong. She's an adult cat but we don't know how old as she was a rescue cat, although I dint think she is 'elderly'.

I know there's not much point in posting on here but someone might vaguely recognise the symptoms and be able to offer some advice! In the meantime positive vibes would be much appreciated.

Well, I can't help you with a diagnosis but didn't want you to think no one cared.

Does she have any bites/abcesses[sp] which might have given her an infection? Hopefully you mean you are going to the vet today?

So positive vibes sent, as asked for, and please let us know how you get on.

Thanks.
I am just back from vet and they are keeping her there for emergency treatment. It doesn't look promising Sad

Ah bless Sad, what did they say? Are they giving her liquids? You never know she could make a recovery. Many years ago one of mine had to go to the vet on New Years Eve with an abscess. They gave her some injection and said she could get worse before she got better.

Despite having tickets to a New Year party, we stayed home with her as her head had swollen to the size of a football [I kid you not!]. Stayed up with her half the night waiting for the inevitable but eventually went to bed and then woke up and she was fine. And lived until she was 21!

Still even if this is goodbye you know you have given her a wonderful life, taking her on as a rescue cat, holding your hand, tightly.

The vet said she thinks the cat is dying but is doing blood tests and giving her fluids etc- I don't think she would have done any of that if we hadn't been insured so it really doesn't look positive. She eems to have some nerve damage and can't stand up- her paws were bent backwards and she couldn't weight bear on them, which was worse than just a few hours before.
One theory is that when she went missing she was locked in a garage/shed and ate/drank something poisonous. 8yo dd is already devastated Sad Sad.
They are going to phone back before 4pm.

SadSad as well, poor all of you.

:( so sorry OP, hope she's okay.

NeatFreak · 14/04/2012 17:43

Thanks for the kind words. Sadly, my instincts were right and she has gone. She had massive internal bleeding and they suspect it was a tumor. I know I made the right decision but it was so very hard

Oh, NeatFreak, I am sorry.Sad

You did make the right decision, she looked to you to do it for her.

Just think of all the happiness you gave her and that she gave you. Smile
