because unlike a litter tray which i can empty, the bed now has loads of buried poos festering......what do i do? i can't dig around looking for them but the garden smells now because of this flower bed. another cat poos there but he doesn't bury his so i can easily clear them up. i wish she still used the litter tray in the house to poo in tbh

My cat does the same Sad, no advice really unless you are willing to put wood bark or gravel on your flower beds. Apparently if you place a bottle of water on your flower beds then the cat wont poor in them (they don't like the reflection of light from the water) but it didn't work for us.

marne - interesting to know i am not alone. i don't mind not putting flowers in the beds which is a shame though as i like doing this but the SMELL when you move the soil (disturbing a buried turd) is just the most.............REALLY foul. bless though, she digs this little hole and burys it so carefully after :)

Watching with interest.

Our next door neighbours cat does this...even worse when its not actually your cat!

So far nothing has really worked.

blighter · 31/03/2012 18:05

i saw our cat actually rolling around in the 'poo parlour' today....she likes to dust herself in mud (bless) the way chickens do. but the POO PARLOUR, errghh, nowonder she smells sometimes, actually, she has a varying smell although sometimes stronger than others. i saw POO cat today. bloody ginger tom that uses our gdn to shit in although i didn't know where he lived UNTIL TODAY....i clocked the bugger looking out of a bedroom window, end of our gdn to the left. thing is, its not the cat owners fault so no point in telling them, just one of those things, bloody cat. i wish our cat would duff him up a bit :)

Mine has not long been going outside and I realised a couple of weeks ago that he was no longer using his litter tray.
I had been spreading used (not pooy) litter under the hedge in the hope that he would "go" there
Unfortunately I have discovered he's using my new gravel garden. I've found 2 weeks worth of poo buried very nicely in the gravel.
I spread some stuff I bought which is supposed to repel cats. It smells almost as bad as the poo, but little squirrel doesn't mind it at all.

At least yours bothers to bury it. Mine just craps on the lawn Hmm

blighter · 01/04/2012 19:55

secret i used to buy all manner of things in the hope of getting local cat to stop pooing in the garden including some pellets that are soaked in lions wee, none of them worked. tbh i would prefer her to poo in our gdn than someone elses as i know how annoying it is and i would feel guilty. she is a good girl to bury it but i wish she wouldn't, easier to pick up. i work at a flower mkt on sunday and resisted buying loads of lovely plants as i can't plant them, no point, slugs tuck in and the cats poo makes it impossible anyway, shame

I recommend getting a dog, our dog chases the cats away or cleans up after them

boxoftricks · 01/04/2012 20:06

we've got one of those green boxes on a stick that you stick into the ground. its got a sensor on it, and emits a high pitched sound that cats HATE. it works. no poo

Orange peel is meant to be an effective detterant, our neighbour used it for years against our cats. Also strong black pepper and cayene pepper. Strong sharp smells.

My gravel patch is currently covered in a mixture of ;
orange peel, black pepper, expensive cat deterrent granules, bottles of water, lavender disinfectant and..... cat poo.

blighter · 01/04/2012 22:02

thing is, now i have a cat of my own i can't use cat repellant, it is natural that she uses our gdn, i couldn't push her to use someone else's, bang out of order. i used to use it ages ago when we DIDN'T have a cat but (still) have a problem with a neighbours bloody cat shitting in it. bastard still does too, its disgusting, it just sits there, he never tries to hide it. but none of the stuff worked anyway, it was easier to clear it up. our gdn stinks although depends which way the wind is blowing. i can't face digging plants in as i know what lurks under the top soil. i wish i could rent a dog to hoover up the poos. my sisters three dogs eat poo, she was telling me some recent gross tales, when she gets home she chucks them some doggy mints to mask the smell...& i think i've got problems :D

fridakahlo · 01/04/2012 23:46

When my sons were small and we didn't have cats ourselves, a few local moggies used to come and poop in our garden. I tried allsorts to keep them out as I didn't want my sons touching any of it. Anyway, the only thing that worked was Jeyes fluid, someone told me cats hate the smell First I used it how you should if you were going to clean your patio, mixed with water then rinsed but it wasn't strong enough to keep the buggers out. So I applied it neat to all of my fences and gates (not every bit of the wood but applied in kind of an invisible line all around) around the garden and it worked but I think it took a good few weeks of applying it before they gave up trying to come in. If I ever noticed different cats loitering in the garden for anything more than using it as a short cut, I would apply more to deter it.
